I'm wondering if the etymology of this village's name is connected with the "Social Circle" group that is associated with the French Revolution, especially considering the town's founding date. See this link for a little more info: OnlyOutByOne. I couldn't find any info in the Wikipedia "French Revolution" article.Wbchaney (talk) 03:11, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It is unknown, it is rumored that it had to do with weekend alcohol drinking, and the 19th-century two-day trip to Atlanta from Athens, a 'circular' drinking route.I20sc (talk) 00:32, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Freemason town[edit]

Social Circle has Civil War heritage, and ties to Margaret Mitchell and Atlanta Sear's cook Nathalie Dupree. It is also a Freemason Lodge town.I20sc (talk) 00:32, 30 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
