Echo/Club.[edit]

I can't find anywhere that the Club took the award over from the Echo. In fact, I can't find any mention of the club's award prior to 2010/11, even on their own website. The Daily Echo clearly claim ownership of the award since 1973 (this is from today http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/14485634.VOTE__Closest_ever_Player_of_the_Season_award_in_the_balance/) so with that in mind, it's not right to claim the club's award is the same as the 1973 one.

We should make it clear there are two different votes (Echo since 1973 and club since as far as I can tell, 2010) and include both side-by-side. But without definitive sources that the club took it over from the Echo (unlikely seeing as the Echo say they still run the original one) we cannot say the club one is the same as the 1973 one. — Preceding unsigned comment added by CiaranSouthampton (talkcontribs) 07:03, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To clear this up, I have contacted the Echo and the club. When I get a response, I'll post it on here. CiaranSouthampton (talk) 10:39, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have an answer! The Daily Echo's award is the one started in 1973/74. The club's one is NOT a continuation of it (https://twitter.com/dailyechosaints/status/730724806027546624). However, it seems that the two have always had the same winner, since the new one started in 2010/11 (if the five years statement is accurate, which I can't find anything to suggest it isn't). However, it looks like this year's result will mean two different winners. I propose creating a new table for the club's winners since 2010/11 and running both results side by side on this page. Thanks for investigating, I was actually just about to do that. Give me a minute :) Andre666 (talk) 12:58, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
There you go, I think that works pretty well :) Andre666 (talk) 13:17, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Perfect! I did see something yesterday from club referring to Jose Fonte winning the award in 2010/11, so think we can extend the club's table back to then. Either than that, I think it's spot on! CiaranSouthampton (talk) 15:16, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
