Why is there a mismatch between studies showing suicide rate by profession and studies looking directly at medical professionals?[edit]

There are studies linked in this article that indicate doctors have the highest suicide rate. Yet CDC statistics^[1] looking across all professionals as well as the Office of National Statistics^[2] (which focuses on the UK) show that they commit suicide below average and are certainly not at the top of the list. These statistics would not justify the existence of this article.

Section List of medical students and physicians who died by suicide [1980-present][edit]

I really don't see the encyclopedic value in the section and I suggest that it be removed. I believe it violates WP:NOTNEWS: the reports are (sadly) routine coverage, and not important enough to mention. Also per WP:NOTNEWS "coverage of that individual should be limited to the article about that event, in proportion to their importance to the overall topic" and the people mentioned are of little overall importance to the topic, since the persons mentioned are only a tiny fraction of doctors committing suicide. @Sjö: The way that editors have addressed this elsewhere is to create a WP:LIST article and fork these lists to that article. See List of killings by law enforcement officers in the United States for an example of routine local news coverage in lists. Presently there is a discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Deaths by Russian roulette about whether Wikipedia should list deaths in that manner. I agree with User:Sjö. The listings are incomplete and not encyclopedic. Unless a particular suicide is shown to have led to significant changes (curriculum, internship conditions, physician monitoring, etc) it should not be mentioned. Furthermore, almost half of the existing entries were either completely unsourced or had sources that simply mentioned the death. but not support the claim of suicide. BLP applies to recently deceased people, making it a BLP violation violation to claim suicide of recently deceased people without a reliable source. I have removed all improperly sourced entries.
