I am not concerned with Maratha caste but medieval to 18-19th century Indian history in which these several dynasties constitute a big role. Surgana royal family no connection to Kolis as asserted in several academic sources. The royal family can also be communicated to issue statements decrying this baseless claim based on outdated British era mistakes. Surgana State and the Koli association[edit]
The population of Surgana State forces has mostly constituted of the tribal Koli residents of the locality. On grounds of prevalent notions around tribal hierarchy, certainly assuming the chief of the same State might belong to the same caste/community as the various local Koli tribes, the British colonial texts originally theorize them as being Kolis. This claim has never had any basis whatsoever, and evidently there are no records to support this. All marriages of Surgana Pawars recorded in documented history and current times are among royal families that identify as Maratha or Rajput. The Surgana Pawars eschew all association with Kolis, and other tribes who are not even traditionally regarded as orthodox Hindu. The history of Surgana Pawars is clearly noted starting from 1700s in the period of Maratha expansion and they are members of the same Pawar family as that of Dhar State as one can read here in official Indian government parliamentary statements: [1]. There has never been any association of Surgana Pawar family with Kolis beyond a feudal role, and the family can be reached out on social media for confirmation about the same.
Admins can even read the great offense taken at this association by the royal family heir Rohitraje Deshmukh Pawar of Surgana in the comments of this blog post by a Koli chauvinist: [2] These are politics of a handful of amateur North Indian 'Koli' Blog writers [3] Vijay (self styled as Thakur Vijay Singh) of Koli and [4] Prem Mahaur (self styled as Premchandji Singh Mahaur). If necessary even statements from the royal Surgana Pawar family, and any other Maratha family falsely claimed by Koli tribals, can be procured quite easily.
