Why Sensei?[edit]

Beyond biography[edit]

This article is a very nice biography. What I lack is information on his importance: his legacy, what he was known for. Dobson is after all not just any aikido dude, and that is not very clearly stated in the current version. // habj 12:09, 23 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Asked" to be uchi-deshi?[edit]

The claim here is that Dobson was asked by O-Sensei to be uchi-deshi. As someone with a lot of experience in Japan, I find this claim suspicious. Does anyone know if it can be substantiated? Djiann 07:30, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

In an interview in the book Aikido In America by John Stone and Ron Meyer, Dobson himself states that he himself took the initiative and requested to be uchideshi (he was spending all his time at the dojo anyway, so wouldn't it be more convenient?), which met with much resistance--except from O-Sensei, who dismissed all objections, saying simply, "I want him." —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cassidyjoy (talk • contribs) 06:52, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Meeting Terry towards the end of his life.[edit]

I met Terry in Mendocino at the Men's conference, i was struck by his beauty and love. He actually worked with a group of young men with anger I still remember his invitation to hit him in his chest ( i had no idea at the time his heart was weak). Weeks later i saw one of his last teaching sessions at skid row dojo on Stillman street in San Francisco, again,he glowed and was beautiful. I cannot imagine a better role model for humanity. He was indeed a big man with a bigger heart.

Actually i thought he died in sf general. . . I seem to recall visiting him there. ..

I could be wrong about the actual time of death, what is important is when he died, he was fully alive.
