Why a separate article about the pilot?[edit]

This film (?) is the pilot episode on the How the West Was Won TV-series. I think information on this episode/film is better located in the How the West Was Won article instead. It has the same characters, producers, actors... In fact, this article has no additional information that is not already present in the other article. I propose a delete/merge. --Kildor (talk) 16:03, 15 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I based my decision on the fact that IMDb lists it as a TV film and that some characters names were changed before the series started. I do, however, agree with you that the article could be improved in many areas, but that will hopefully change over time. I especially hope that the production section will expand and they will then most likely differ from articles dealing with the production of the series. --Bensin (talk) 08:59, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
This episode is part of the continuous story, and I believe theses articles will be overlapping in many aspects. Of course there are differences in production, but the series were also filmed (and released) on different occasions (3 seasons). In general, there is very little information available on the subject, and I find it unlikely that there will be enough information to make two separate articles on the film/series. Also, this film/episode is listed as pilot in the List of How the West Was Won episodes. --Kildor (talk) 09:18, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
By the way: IMDB has four (!) entries on the subject:
I noticed that too :-) --Bensin (talk) 10:11, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure the facts in List of How the West Was Won episodes are correct. IMDb says the US release date for the TV film was 19 January 1976 and says the US release date for the first series was 6 February 1977. The list says the pilot was aired February 12, 1978. It's all very confusing. --Bensin (talk) 10:11, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. The dates in the list are probably incorrect. Both IMDB and a fansite have other dates. --Kildor (talk) 12:12, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you still really want to merge I won't oppose, but I'm not sure that's the best way to go. --Bensin (talk) 13:47, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Why? If we have a separate article on the pilot, we should also have separate articles for the 3 seasons. But currently, we have hardly enough information to write a single good article. --Kildor (talk) 15:37, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Like I said, I won't contest you. But it should be clear that it's three different productions, if that is the case. --Bensin (talk) 02:15, 17 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
