more continuity ideas/comments[edit]

p.19 while in the vortex, TARDIS scanner shows events happening on earth, likened to picking up a 'dream'. This is further evidence towards the debate that the TARDIS scanner shows what it expects to see, rather than what is outside (like a camera). pp. 137/8 reference to the TARDIS's 'telepathic circuits' translating for the Doctor and Rose. Never thought it needed to translate for him: thought he knew 'five billion' languages. p. 188 refers to the Doctor as 'holding up the principles of his people, protecting the lesser species'. Yet they had a policy of non-interference for most of the time. The Doctor might he just as arrogant as the rest of his people (p. 189), but 'righting the wrongs of the universe' seems to be his own attribute. Am I correct here? p.221 the TARDIS's telepathic circuits; same as the Cynrog's machines, so he can 'hitch a ride' and get inside Rose's head. We see more of his telepathic abilities in the new series (eg The Girl in the Fireplace). He uses his mind to defeat the enemy in Feast of the Drowned also. Psychic Paper[edit]

Some of this line here is unsubstantiated unless a citation can be found - it's all conjecture... it's alien technology in a television series, it doesn't have to conform to rules!

After the Doctor showed his psychic paper to Nathaniel Morton, he was unsure what Morton had seen, as there was no 'residual image'. This suggests the image is determined by what the viewer expects to see, whereas the interchange between Captain Jack and Rose in The Empty Child suggests the thoughts of the user determines the image.

Well, actually, in the The Idiot's Lantern, when the Doctor flashes the psychic paper at the guard on the way to the transmitter tower, he has to look at it to know that the man thinks he is the King of Belgium. Haven't gotten my hands on this book yet, so I don't know if the above applies, but anyway ... Gwydionmom 01:19, 2 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, and also, in Tooth and Claw, the Doctor seems surprised when Queen Victoria says he's been appointed her 'protector,' so there seems to be some precedent for not knowing exactly what the paper says (perhaps it depends on how specific the thoughts are of the one who hands it over - conjecture, sorry).
