Song

[edit]

Added the Spike Jones song because it's such a great, catchy tune and part of the Worldwar/Colonization mythos. But if someone remembers the next two lines, please add them! Arasaka, 28 March 2006

Remembered the lyrics! I just need someone to verify them, please. Arasaka

OK, this is all pretty good stuff. However, we really need some some specific source quotes. Obviously these will be the novels, but without actually citing any specific references it can't be an "encyclopaedic" article. WikiReaderer 20:37, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

RE names of vehicles...

[edit]

I understand why Turtledove used different names for things like fighter jets, troop transports etc. Most of these choices, I have no problem with.

However, one that always irked me was the choice of "landcruiser" for tank. Why? If the Race have no naval history to speak of, then why would their tanks be referred to in this way? It would make much more sense to call them a "guncarrier" instead. a) That makes it the same style as "troopcarrier" (APC). b) It actually describes the thing in a non-naval-sounding way.

Merger with Worldwar

[edit]

This article is not encyclopedic on its own, it should be withing the book's article.--Tallard 05:44, 29 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Better image?

[edit]

Is there a better image than the very inaccurate depiction currently in the article? The three most glaring errors are 1. the eyes, 2. the tails, 3. clothing. Members of The Race have eyes like chameleons, vestigial tail stumps and only wear clothing when required by cold climates on Tosev 3/Earth or when humans attempt to disguise Race prisoners. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.100.250.88 (talk) 09:37, 20 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

It's all I could find. All illustrations of the Race are done by Bob Eggleton, and they all show the same mistakes. Perhaps I should do a drawing myself, but until then, this is the best we have. Dark hyena (talk) 14:42, 23 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Found a better image from the Turtledove website. The creature is naked and covered in bodypaint. I'm not sure which translation it is though. The title was written in cyrilic, but it was not Russian. Could someone identify the language?; ответньій удар Dark hyena (talk) 15:33, 4 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Tons of problems

[edit]

Just read the article. There are tons of problems here. It isn't internally consistent in places, contains opinion and/or speculation and is just plain wrong in others. I am actually in the process of reading the series again now and will step back in here and fix some of these problems once complete. ludahai 魯大海 (talk) 12:44, 1 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There are still serious hiccups in the article. "Emperors are democratically elected, but the choices are limited to the clutch of the previous ruler" (Worldwar: Striking the Balance) and yet it is also stated "Snout-counting: Democracy. The word is used derisively, as the Race had no concept of democracy and regarded nations that use "snout-counting", in particular the United States, as anarchist."
The conflicts between those two statements should be obvious. Do the books explain this?--2606:A000:131D:4413:BDBA:C278:E1D0:F3F6 (talk) 01:01, 8 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
