Drinking Partner?[edit]

Roe often described the Emperor as a drunk, despite being a Muslim. I'll put up a quotation when i find it. Letstalk (talk) 11:33, 27 February 2009 (UTC) Jahngir was known for drinking even if he was a Muslim. It is believed that after 1613 or 1614, that was when he got married to Nurjahan, the affairs of the state had come into the hands of Nurjahan junta which included Nurjahan herself, her brother Asaf Khan and her father. Mahabat Khan one of his commander had once captured the Sultan in protest against the intrigues of Nurjahan. Even Khurram, the future Shahjahan, revolted because of the dominance of Nurjahan. It all happened because it was said that Jahangir always remained under the influence of some intoxicant. There are numerous quotations about him on this aspect of his life. Now, was that intoxicant alcohol or opium, for that authentication is required. However, there are quotations by contemporary people which suggest that the Emperor was addicted to alcohol.
