This editor is from rural WI and has never heard of 'tiger meat'...[edit]

I grew up in rural WI (predominantly German-ancestry community, at that!) and have never heard of 'tiger meat' (other than meat from an actual tiger, which I wouldn't have been aware that anyone ate - legally, anyway).

Name and Forums[edit]

It's also on the web in many forums such as this one: [1]. Added a link to Steak Tartare, which Tiger Meat is closely related to. It might even make sense to add this as an additional topic to the Steak Tartare page (which is also under discussion of being moved to the Tartare page). Arguably, Tiger Meat is more of a difference of nomenclature and specifics in preparation rather than a completely different dish from Steak Tartare. I'm from North Dakota and have eaten tiger meat there on numerous occasions. Trapzero (talkcontribs) 01:11, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've lived in ND all of my life and I've never heard of this food. Perhaps it is more popular in areas of the state that are more traditional enclaves of Germans? I've lived in the Red River Valley all of my life. --MatthewUND(talk) 07:59, 17 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I've had it or known people that have had it in southwest ND (quite a few German towns, e.g. New Leipzig) and in the southern Red River Valley (Hankinson). Tiger meat also seems to be popular among the hunting community from what I've seen. I was extremely skeptical when I first tried it (worrying about Salmonella, etc), but after one "crackerful," I couldn't get enough of it. Trapzero 22:42, 18 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Carne de onça?[edit]

The bit about the sandwich also being called "carne de onça" is uncited, and while I can find articles about carne de onça, my quick search didn't find any evidence that they're the same thing. Can anybody more familiar with this confirm or deny it? Maybeitsmir (talk) 03:17, 12 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that carne de onça is another descendent of mett from German immigrants traveling to Brazil? It does not seem particularly relevant to the article to me. It also seems to be distinct from tiger meat since carne de onça seems to have lots of fresh chives on it that I have never seen with tiger meat. I could not find any source tying the two foods directly together. It may be best to delete the line mentioning it. Moon motif (talk) 03:36, 2 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
