Updates

Someone just updated something about the radio station, although I am not completely sure of the facts they put forth, I believed some students still worked for the station. Does anyone know if the latest update is completely factual, or just a student who used to work for the station and is upset? Matthewvelie 23:47, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

Stadium

Okay, my earlier revision of "new stadium" to "proposed stadium" was reverted. The UCF News Site states that is still proposed (NOT part of the master plan yet), and the BoT still hasn't put its seal of approval on it. I'm changing it back to "proposed" due to this obvious nature of this article. - Zacwest

Fair enough, however by now this talk is old since the stadium is no longer proposed, but approved and currently under construction. While I don't feel it's nessecary to delete this section; it's currently irrelevant. --Glen 06:31, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Possible New Sections

I think new sections should possibly be added. Campus clubs like Greek Orgs, student clubs, etc. and links as well as possible descriptions of common events like Late Knights or CAB events. --Glen 06:34, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

UCF Seal

Does anyone have the UCF seal that has the pegasus in the middle surrounded by the university name and founding year? Pretty much every school has their seal on their respective articles and I feel that the UCF logo we are using is a little out of place. Something like this (http://www.iroffice.ucf.edu/images/factbooks/original_university_seal.gif) but with UCF's current name. Gonk

IIRC, the official seal imprinted on all correspondence and business cards includes simply the stylized pegasus. The BS/BA diploma, however, has the seal as described. I can scan in my diploma, but how could we cite the photo? (OT, but there is now a UCF userbox available, if you're into that kind of thing. See Wikipedia:Userboxes/Education/United_States) JaKaL! 19:44, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

It should be noted that noted that University of Central Florida Marketing has recently made numerous branding changes to the logo, motto, color scheme (this may mean that "black and gold" is no longer accurate), et cetera. I don't know all of the specifics, but some information is available here: http://www.umark.ucf.edu/ . It may be beneficial to contact them and ask what the "party line" is. Additionally, they can probably provide you with an image of the seal and logo.

The seal is listed in the updated mark usage guidelines (it may have been in the old one too, I don't know), I took the seal from there and added it to this article.

UCF football team merge

I noticed that it was suggested that University of Central Florida football team be merged into this article. I don't think that the football team deserves its own article, really, but I don't think we can merge it into this article cleanly. So, I have a counter suggestion- create a new article for UCF athletics, merge in the football team article, the athletics section from this article, and probably Spirit splash. I don't really have the time to do this correctly right now, but I'll look into it later. Any opinions on this idea?M412k 04:57, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

To split or not to split

This article is getting fairly large and arguably somewhat ungainly. Can we possibly split this up? Should we? I think we should be working toward making this a featured article candidate; how would a split affect this? Sections that could possibly be spun off IMO are athletics and history. Housing section is getting large but doesn't seem significant enough for an article. Maybe the Rosen College of Hospitality could be a separate article eventually also.

However, this is not imperative right now. I'm just throwing it out there because the system complains to me every time I edit the page that it's possibly getting too large. It seems very possible that this may be a good thing to do eventually.

Incidentally, I redirected UCF to this page... don't think anyone will object. M412k 04:42, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Have a look at the University of Michigan's article. It's enormous and it's been granted FA status. I think that everything should remain where they are. If anything, stuff may need to be expanded beyond what they are now. JaKaL! 02:14, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

School of Film and Digital Media Bias?

Does it seem strange to anyone that the School of Film and Digital Media section includes the line "which supplies graduates to companies such as the Walt Disney Company and Lockheed Martin"? I'm sure you could argue successfully that many of the departments at the UCF campus supply plenty of graduates to Walt Disney Company and Lockheed Martin. What does everyone think? My opinion is that the line should be removed.

I believe I put that line in there because it was was mentioned in the 2005 UCF Catalog. However, I see your point and wouldn't mind it being removed. –Prototime (talkcontribs) 18:44, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Alright, I'm going to remove it then. Thanks.

Picture

I have a Rosen picture that I want to add. Could someone let me know how to do so? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Orlandocollegestudent (talkcontribs) 23:08, 1 January 2007 (UTC).

U Can't Finish?

Is there a consensus on whether this should be in the article or not? Seems POV to me. Maximumlobster 14:31, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

Not only is it kind of POV, it's not even that notable. All the state schools in Florida have similar acronyms (USF: U Stay Forever, UWF: U Won't Finish, etc etc). I say leave it out. It's not really contributing anything. Mike H. I did "That's hot" first! 14:33, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
I don't think it's really a problem to mention it in the Trivia section, but I don't think it's a big deal either way. I'm game for whatever the consensus is. –Prototime (talkcontribs) 16:00, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
It's a well known enough nickname that I'd think it would be notable at least for trivia. Nicknames gennerally have some truth to them somewhere that help to tell about the school. As for POV I don't think it is. Whether or not one feels one 'can finish' or not is irrelevant to the fact that the nickname is well known by people who both agree and disagree with it's usage. It is in declining use though from what I can tell, so in a few years it might be more of history than triva. GromXXVII 16:13, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
I agree with this point. This little tidbit of information is by definition trivia. That would be a good place to put it, if at all. JaKaL! 11:24, 19 September 2006 (UTC)
I concur! PlaydoughRevisited 01:46, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Podcast

I currently run the UCF Digital Media department's podcast, and I am almost dead certain that the claim that it inspired iTunes to start the iTunes University program is completely fictional. I have, accordingly, removed that from the Trivia section. I've left in the other reference to the podcast but I have removed Brett Thomason's name from it. He graduated nearly two years ago and only briefly had any affiliation with the UCF DM Podcast. His addition to the page was self-serving and misplaced egotism.

The part about the podcast being the first in the nation and being accredited by Apple, that remains patently false until I see proof. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Keshiklabs (talkcontribs) 15:54, 7 March 2007 (UTC).

Motto?

Has UCF's motto actually changed to "Stands for Opportunity"? I could have thought "Reach for the Stars" is still the school motto. My impression of whats listed is that it is the current marketing theme.

Both mottos are used. I was going to put both on but I am very bad at editing on Wikipedia. Orlandocollegestudent 23:06, 1 January 2007 (UTC)Orlandocollegestudent

UCF is currently running television and radio ads with the "stands for opportunity" logo, and it now seems to be the prefered logo used in official handbooks/viewbooks/brochures. 68.157.60.195

According to UCF marketing brand book, the motto is still "Reach for the Stars" as imprinted on the seal (this has been the only official motto of the university since it was founded) and the active campaign is "Stands for Opportunity" (the previous "Accent on the..." campaigns were just that, campaigns, not mottos), see http://www.umark.ucf.edu/images/pdf/UCF_Graphic_Standards5.07.pdf which was updated earlier this month. I have updated the article accordingly and removed the entire motto section entirely as it was near empty with the inaccurate information removed. --Aent 04:53, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
"Reach for the Stars" dates back to when UCF was FTU (Flordia Tech. Univ) and they had that crazy spaceman orange logo. Most of what I see on campus today (I am a current student... in the libary at the moment) is "UCF Stands for Opperunity" --FLJuJitsu 23:51, 30 Aug 2007 (UTC)
"Stands for Opportunity" is the current marketing campaign slogan, it is not the motto of the university. If you look at the current, official seal, such as on the University Mark page, it lists "Reach for the Stars" as the university motto. Take a look at the university seal: Image:UCF Seal.png It still has "Reach for the Stars" on it.

A point of interest: Playboy, Honors Congress, NORML & SDS

Though, not maybe the best thing to associate with a college, PlayBoy came to do a photo shoot at UCF Fall Semester 2006. The Central Florida Future has a very good article on this.

Also, UCF has a very active Honors Congress, NORML and Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) groups. Are these pertinent enough to make an extension article or articles on their own? I think so, but I wanted some feedback.

  • An extension article seems too much. I don't see why you wouldn't just add this to the main article. Make sure that it's NPOV too- NORML and SDS cause more than their share of trouble around campus. M412k 07:52, 25 January 2007 (UTC)
Maybe that means they are notable???68.157.60.195 02:54, 28 March 2007 (UTC)
Also of note, there is a growing movement on UCF in the wake of the VT shootings to allow firearms on campus. I know the group had hoped to receive acknowledgement from the UCF union as a student activity. Don't know if we want to include this. FLJuJitsu 19:40, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

Quailty

I believe work needs to be done to bring the quality of this page up to at least GA. I have molded the first few paragraphs off the Cornell page which is rated FA. This page is undoubtedly used as a major source of information on the university and should be cleaned up to provide a positive image of the school.FLJuJitsu 19:40, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

I am uploading some new pictures. The image of the B.A. building really needs to be replaced it is very unflattering. User:FLJuJitsu —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 04:29, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Endowment

I don't think this university has such a large endowment. this shows it being around 50 million which is more reasonable. Kushboy 21:32, August 7, 2005 (UTC)

I agree, however the UCF webpage gives a more recent number of $70,528,212 as of 2004-06-30. Zac West 23:38, 7 August 2005 (UTC)

Well, according to the College of Engineering, UCF recently passed the $100 million mark in research funding. I'm pretty sure research funding is included in a school's endowment. Let me know if I'm wrong.

Endowment includes long-term investments and equity (land, stocks, etc.) that provides income for the university beyond state funding. Research funding is money provided by government, industry and individuals to fund research projects. It is spent on salaries, equipment and related costs of performing that research. While research (and scholarships, construction, etc.) may be funded by income from the endowment, research funding is normally short-term and directed towards specific projects. Research funding is not counted as part of the endowment. Bill321 03:49, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

Pictures

I believe the Business Administration picture should be replaced with a picture that is current of one of the buildings, that picture is at least 5 years old. Business Administration II now sits in the place where that picture was taken. - Matthewvelie

If you have a camera, that picture can be yours! Even my best telephoto lens won't reach from Canberra, so it should really be someone local. Do you need help in uploading a pic? Pete 03:22, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

I can do it, I just wanted other people's opinions on it before I changed it. The page shouldn't be an ad for the University but I believe the pictures should be current Matthewvelie 20:45, Jun 21, 2005 (UTC)

Go for it... I was the one who originally put the photos on the page, which I got from UCF.edu - Gonk

The page is still lacking in pictures. I'm no photographer, but I'll be back on the campus in a few weeks and I'll try to get some suitable pictures. M412k 04:50, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

University of Central Florida Marketing maintains a repository of images located here: http://photofile.ucf.edu/ . I believe that some of them (certainly not all of them) are public domain.

The currently displayed picture under the College of Engineering and Computer Science is only one third of the buildings presently being used to house engineering and computer science classes. The building pictured is actually the Harris Engineering Center, which is a legitimate place for offices of engineering professors, but other buildings like Engineering I and Engineering II also exist. Is it feasible to include pictures of all three buildings or would it be better to explain in the article? Jskiles1 (talk) 17:50, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

FA Status?

Anybody think we may be getting close to submitting this for peer review? Looking at other FAs in the education category, we probably will need to include some citation in order to get any sort of notice. Also, if we had any information on the remote campuses (Downtown Orlando, Lake Mary, Daytona Beach, etc.), specifically what sorts of classes are offered and enrollment statistics, that would be helpful. If anyone is interested, I'd like some aid in clearing up some of this stuff and submitting the article for peer review. For reference's sake, the article University of Michigan recieved FA status. There are several others in the Education category that have passed muster too that we can use as guidelines. The real tough part is going to be building a bibliography. I can tackle some of that given some time. Who's with me? - JaKaL! 15:52, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

  • I don't really think we're at that point yet. This article has definitely improved a lot from what it was, but it still doesn't seem as organized and polished as a featured article should be. Don't get me wrong- I'd love to see this as a featured article, being a current UCF student who feels that his school is underrated, and I think that this should be a goal; although, I must admit, I'm not exactly sure what needs to be done to get there. M412k 21:16, 29 July 2006 (UTC)
    • Agreed. Maybe a to-do list is in order. I'll put that down on my to-do list ;) JaKaL! 02:12, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

As a multiple graduate of UCF, I look forward to seeing the University presented in the best possible light. However, this article needs significant fact checking and proofreading before it is ready for prime-time. For example, there never was a "College of Computer Science", it was the Computer Science Department that moved to co-locate with the other departments in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 2006. At one point there is a claim that UCF has "nearly 100 separate courses of study" and another section says that the College of EECS "offers more than 100 degree programs". Which is correct? What is the difference between a "course of study" and a "degree program"? Harris Corporation donated $3 million, not $6 million. The $6 million figure includes a Florida matching grant of $3 million. Spell-checking is difficult in web pages, but errors like "promenently", "dagree" are easy to find and correct. The same goes for errors like "with the first classes began in October 1968", "there is one building that is almost completely comprised of UCF athletic students" and "The college will initially continue to operate". Some of these errors may seem trivial, but they mark the difference between a feature article and one that is still in need of considerable work. Bill321 04:31, 22 September 2007 (UTC)

    • I rewrote the introduction some time ago. It was simply a copy and reword of an exsisting FA artical. As a proud UCF student I would very much like to see if we can't achive FA status. FLJuJitsu 00:31, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
    • Actually, it was the School of Computer Science - it's a department now in EECS. This article has the potential to get to FA-status... just needs people to work out all the little wrinkles. M412k (talk) 21:57, 31 August 2008 (UTC)

Victim Services and Health Services

Do we need to include sections about Victim Services and Health Services on the page (Under Student Life)? Most universities offer these services, they are not unique, and are not found on the pages of other universities, even FA pages (Look at the University of Michigan, Harvard, Cornell or USC). In our strive to get this page to FA status we are trying to weed out the non-essentials. --Scpmarlins (talk) 03:51, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

Affiliated housing

I noticed this recent addition to the article:

"Affiliated housing is owned by the University of Central Florida, but is managed by an outside firm, currently being American Campus Communities."

Does anyone know if this is actually true? I heard through the daisy chain a few years ago that the contact was that after 20 years of being affiliated housing UCF would acquire ownership of the now affiliated housing, but that they do not currently own it. GromXXVII (talk) 13:15, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

This is indeed true. They are now referred to by UCF Housing and Residence Life as 'extended campus.' Further evidence can be found through the American Campus Communities webpage, [1], where both Pegasus Landing and Pegasus Pointe are only listed as 'managed' by them, where as all of their other Orlando properties are listed as 'owned and managed.'--75.102.128.67 (talk) 21:05, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I think we need something more concrete then that. UCF's housing website says they are "privately owned" and even searching for "extended campus" on the housing website, the only thing that mentions that is an RA form. I'm going to take this out of the article and I'd say it shouldn't be added back until we can get some kind of source saying it is. Infact, looking at the orange county property appraiser site, its owned by KNIGHTS KROSSING STUDENT HOUSING LLC [2]

"To assist students who need housing, the university has affiliated with two privately owned and operated traditional style student apartment facilities, Pegasus Landing and Pegasus Pointe." [3] —Preceding unsigned comment added by Aent (talkcontribs) 02:09, 3 May 2009 (UTC)

"The University affiliated with properties owned by the Capital Projects Finance Authority ("CPFA") in the fall of 2001. Pegasus Pointe (formerly Knight's Court) and Pegasus Landing (formerly Knight's Krossing) Apartments have a combined total of approximately 3,750 beds and encompass 80 acres of land. This transaction donated the land to the University of Central Florida Foundation, Inc. (the "Foundation"). The Foundation provides a ground lease to CPFA, a not-for-profit entity. Property management is provided by College Park Management, Inc. The University manages the student life aspects of the complexes. The residents are subject to the disciplinary code of the University and University student life activities take place at the complexes."[4]--Scpmarlins (talk) 03:54, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
The UCF Foundation, Inc isn't UCF. I know this would made very clear at a previous student housing meeting regarding new housing the Foundation is planning to build in Seminole County--70.118.94.70 (talk) 18:14, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
The UCF Foundation is noted as "a discrete component unit of the University of Central Florida," component unit meaning a part of.[5] UCF Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization administered as an independent part of UCF. One can see their website for more information.[6] --Scpmarlins (talk) 21:54, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
I think you missed the word "discrete" which means distinct, separate, unconnected. According to the foundation themselves as well as the university, it is not part of the university, but exists to support the university. I think for the sake of accuracy, we should probably try to contact Housing of the UCF Foundation and find out what the true relationship and ownership is of Pegasus Landing/Pointe and UCF. Its very contradictory and unclear throughout these websites.--70.118.94.70 (talk) 00:26, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

Admissions and selectivity

The note that UCF is the 4th most selective state university is accurate, but highly misleading. UCF is the only one of those 4 universities that did not cap enrollment. Had UCF admitted the same number of students as FIU or FSU, their selectivity would have been second behind UF. I believe it would be appropriate to note that UCF did not cap enrollment unlike the other state universities, especially UF and FSU. 67.233.203.184 (talk) 13:40, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

UCF did cap freshman enrollment, but not transfer enrollment.[7] --Scpmarlins (talk) 17:49, 28 June 2009 (UTC)

GA issues

The article appears to have addressed many of the issues raised in the good article nomination. However, some outstanding issues remain:

  • No mention of Carnegie classifications, academic calendar, accreditation information, or academic honors in the Academics section.
  • The Specific programs and College of Medicine are too short to be standalone sections and should be merged with Colleges or somewhere else
  • Endowment information should be placed under Administration & organization
  • The list of research centers includes centers/institutions with no Wikipedia article and are presumably non-notable. I recommend removing the box and including only the centers that are notable as either part of the descriptive prose or making a {{seealso}} to something like University of Central Florida research centers.
  • "Listed as a university with "high research activity" by the The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the U.S. Department of Education" is misleading because DoE just used the Carnegie classification. There is no statistic describing its basic research expenditures (besides a general "more than $100 million annually"), grant funding, or Congressional earmarks. This is available from the NSF or Chronicle of Higher Education.
  • Some various MoS issues like magazine titles not being italicized or wikilinked
  • Remove banalities
    • Alumni & faculty: "As a major competitor in college athletics, UCF has many notable student athletes, coaches and staff members. Many of the most notable members are listed in UCF's Hall of Fame"
    • Library: "The library has delivered documents to UCF students living as far away as Switzerland
    • Rosen College: "The campus is designed to imitate a resort-style feel with elegant Spanish-inspired architecture", "The Career Services Office also offers career development events including the popular annual Career Expo with historically high attendance from world-renowned companies and organizations."
  • Properly expand dates and pipe link to NCAA tournament article for the year (eg, 1994 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament): "The UCF men's basketball team has advanced to the NCAA tournament 4 times (94, 96, 04, 05)"
  • The athletics section is generally unreferenced needs more citations as a whole
  • Some more description of the programs and academics as well as some notion of the size of enrollment at the satellite campuses is appropriate
  • Recent history appears to be a rehash of statistics or information that is should be elsewhere in the article (enrollment and academics, funding and budget should be in organization and administration), summarize this information instead in a sentence or two
  • There still appears to be no treatment of student activism or protest in the 1970s, mention of racial or gender integration (or mention that it was non-segregated and coeducation at its founding), previous funding crises in the 1970s and 80s, major policies or reforms taken by previous university presidents, etc.

I'm copying this to the GA nom page, but it's looking very good and I'm optimistic this can be promoted if the issues above are addressed. Madcoverboy (talk) 16:20, 3 August 2009 (UTC)

Enrollment

For some reason, the enrollment numbers for the school never were correct in some areas of the page; the correct enrollment numbers have been placed on the page from the official Facts About UCF webpage. In light of this, I have also updated our population ranking in the state and in the nation in the appropriate areas. Prototime

Probably, those figures were just outdated. M412k 04:51, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
Enrollment numbers change yearly based on the variation in basic requirements, school funding, and other external issues. I know for a fact that UCF has frozen enrollment amounts for entering Freshmen at a certain amount as of 2008 and will continue to do so for the next few years due to a decrease in state funding. Controversies

Should there be a section for controversies? I notice some schools have them and others don't--this could be taken as bias, since surely all schools have experienced controversy? Famous Alumnus?

Are we in agreement that Michael Thomas Dunn is not a famous alumnus? He keeps spamming the page with his name. Maximumlobster 16:32, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

I searched for "Michael Thomas Dunn" on Google and it came up with a page about him. Under biography, it does state that he attended the University of Central Florida. Whether the site is legitimate or not, I don't know. After further researching Michael Thomas Dunn, it can be proved that he did, in fact, attend UCF and that he is, in fact, an actor. Therefore, it would be safe to say that he is, in fact, a famous alumnus.
Many people claim to be actors, but few of these people are actually famous. Michael Thomas Dunn has already been determined to be a non-notable subject based on Wikipedia's notablity guidelines. The AFD discussion for his article can be found here. Also, please refer to Help:Talk page for proper formatting of discussions. Tsimshatsui 02:42, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

In the history link you note, archive.org only goes back to 2012, while many of the additions that came from there were added all the way back in 2007. Given that the article was mostly as it is now from 2009, unless there's an older link you found that shows there were copyright issues way back when, then this is likely okay. Wizardman 04:13, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
The fact that that section has reference tags [13] [14] that go to nothing that are close to what we have confirms this for me. That link is a backwards copy. Wizardman 04:16, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Question of picture in Rankings section

Just a quick question… What does the picture of the shooter, that happened in Harlem, NY, have to do with the Rankings section or the University of Central Florida? I didn't see anything about a shooting in this article, an am not sure why it is in the Rankings section, either. Just curious as to why, so if someone could explain it, that would be great. Thanks! Corkythehornetfan (talk) 20:18, 22 December 2013 (UTC)

I do not see the picture that you mention in the article. Could you elaborate further or am I mistaken? Thanks! NEMESIS63 | talk | 20:07, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

Someone has removed it since the 22. Tthe picture was of a man, that was involved in a shooting in Harlem, NY. Wasn't sure why it was on this article, but if I find it, I'll give you the link. Corkythehornetfan (talk) 20:21, 28 December 2013 (UTC)

WP:PRIMARY Considerations

While browsing through the article for I noticed that there was an overwhelming number of references to UCF's own sites. I realize that primary sources are fine for descriptions, data, etc, but I also saw plenty of claims/interpretations that had a UCF site referenced. I realize that the article has numerous secondary sources and is not solely UCF sites, but worth considering if the bulk of the article is based on primary sources. I was wondering what others thought and if it is worth addressing. I didn't read the whole article as it is a bit excessive for what brought me here originally, so maybe it is just certain sections that were heavily primary sourced. I am not placing any tags, threatening to remove text/refs, etc. It is more of an observation and request for others opinions. I don't have time right now to comb through it, but perhaps later. For now, just keep WP:PRIMARY in mind for future edits and let me know what you think about current abundance of primary references. Brinkley32 (talk) 08:39, 2 January 2014 (UTC)

Major article trimming?

@Justheretohelpclean:, see you've been doing some major article rework from Special:Permalink/696242940 to Special:Permalink/696843098 you've removed a lot (~50 lines) of text including ~10 references. Can you share what your article strategy is? Are you affiliated with the subject of this article? — xaosflux Talk 15:30, 26 December 2015 (UTC)

"Largest university by undergraduate enrollment"

This article previously stated that UCF is the "largest university by undergraduate enrollment" and it cited this source. However, a close reading of the source notes that it only includes "the 10 ranked National Universities with the highest undergraduate student enrollment in fall 2016 [emphasis added]." It goes on to state that "[u]nranked schools, which did not meet certain criteria required by U.S. News to be numerically ranked, were not considered for this report."

As a sanity check, I just grabbed the most recent (2016) IPEDS enrollment data and here are the top 10 institutions by total undergraduate enrollment:

  1. University of Phoenix-Arizona: 103711
  2. Ivy Tech Community College: 78910
  3. Lone Star College System: 71551
  4. Western Governors University: 63961
  5. Houston Community College: 57032
  6. University of Central Florida: 55723
  7. Miami Dade College: 55206
  8. Southern New Hampshire University: 54150
  9. Tarrant County College District: 51350
  10. Northern Virginia Community College: 50835

So it seems clear that the claim that UCF has the most undergraduate students is at most contentious if not untrue. But the claim that remains in the article that UCF has the most undergrads on a single campus does seem plausible. ElKevbo (talk) 01:02, 2 February 2018 (UTC)

@ElKevbo: seems like it should be updated with some additional verbiage to reflect that - List of United States university campuses by enrollment is complimentary in that it refers to 'by campus'. By "university" can be misleading as well City University of New York for example claims 200,000+ students under the "university" but is in 24 locations. Changing that to "largest university campus by undergraduate enrollment" may be enough - what do you think? — xaosflux Talk 15:29, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
I'm totally fine with any adjustments you'd like to make to the language if you don't think the current language is sufficient. ElKevbo (talk) 04:21, 3 February 2018 (UTC)
And some on your list like UPA and WGU are almost exclusively "internet" based and don't have campus enrollment. — xaosflux Talk 15:31, 2 February 2018 (UTC)
Yes and there are also many instances in which multiple campuses of an institution are aggregated in official reports and tallies. That's my point: This is not a straight forward and uncontested fact. But the "most students at a single campus" fact is a much easier one to portray so it's fine to include that information in the article without any elaboration. In fact, that fact alone gets across the point that we're trying to convey to readers ("this is a really big university, in fact it's one of the very biggest in the U.S.!"). Golden Knights to Knights?

Should we put in about how UCF athletics will be changing from the Golden Knights to the Knights?

Yes, and Knights changing to Golden Knights in 1993 by AD Steve Sloan Knight779087 (talk) 12:33, 9 August 2020 (UTC)

Pegasus Connection

Seeing as I now have had to revert the "Communities" section twice, I would like to make clear that Pegasus Connection is NOT a housing community affiliated with the university. It is owned by College Park Communities, which also owns Pegasus Pointe and Pegasus Landing which ARE affiliated with the university, but College Park Communties does not have such an agreement with the university for Pegasus Connection; Pegasus Connection stands alone. This is represented on the official websites for these communities; Pegasus Pointe and Pegasus Landing both clearly have "UCF Affiliated Housing" listed on the title of their pages, whereas the website for Pegasus Connection does not have this at all. Protime 12:18 (EST), 17 February 2006

It would probably be better to re-word the intro with all the enrollment stuff. It sounds sophmoric and obsessive to talk about who has the most students. Enrollment is not an indicator of quality. Be more clear and concise, mentioning enrollment and rankings only once, maybe twice.

Football

What do you guys want to do with the football article? It is constantly changing because the season is still in progress. I'm for removing the O'leary quote and the link to the non-existant UCF Football wikipedia entry. What do you guys want to do? Any ideas? ~~hectorhector

I cleaned it up a little bit and was surprised to find that O'Leary didn't have an article of his own (I changed that.) I think we should remove the quote as well and I have no problem updating the section as the season progresses. Gonk

Athletics

There is not currrently a section for athletics for the university. I personally do not know a bunch about the different athletics at the university, but I believe a section shoul dbe made talking about the different sports that we have at the unversity. Most of the sports are usually in the top 10 and it now appears that football might be coming back.

Ranking

Does anyone know how the college ranks in the 2006 U.S. News & World Report of Best Colleges? Florida State has this on their page and it is helpful.

The University of Central Florida ranks as a third tier university. Number ranks are only given to those schools ranked 1 through 124. Those schools ranked 125-180 are considered third tier and do not have a specific rank. These schools are just listed alphabetically on the report. Schools ranked in 4th tier are also listed alphabetically and do not have a set rank. Hope this helps.

  • UCF is now ranked in Tier 4 per the 2006 and 2007 editions of US News. This reference is repeatedly posted, yet keeps being deleted. Why is this drop in ranking being deleted? UCF went from a Tier 3 to a Tier 4 per US News.
UCF was ranked tier 3 in 2006. It is currently ranked as tier 4 (2007). The most recent (currently 2007) should be there in my opinion. The older one might be of interest, but as history not in with the rankings.

UCF Rap Song

Would putting up that UCF has it's own rap song be of any use? Does anyone know what the rap song is called? (yes it exists) --

Not largest enrollment anymore

Texas A&M is now the largest: https://www.tamu.edu/about/at-a-glance.html https://www.ucf.edu/about-ucf/facts/
