Article needs expanding[edit]
Vellerat is a unique municipality - in 1996, it was the subject of a nationwide referendum. After the secession of the canton of Jura from the canton of Berne in 1979, Vellerat remained part of the canton of Berne, but was now isolated from the rest of the canton and wished to join the canton of Jura.
