Okay - I agree that this insect is a key pest and deserves its own wikilink, but I would suggest that citations for "significant cause of damage" be provided. In my experience, oviposition is not always as bad as scarring from constant feeding damage, and I believe the thrips' ability to vector tospovirus is by far its most threatening aspect. Anyone want to add citations for all these points? I'm not so certain that oviposition is the primary cause of damage, or the female-dominance of populations, but I'm not an expert. No matter what else, this article will eventually be deleted without some citational support, and we need this article. This thrips is a major North American crop pest, and is of increasing global concern as the greenhouse trade helps in its expansion. Aderksen (talk) 16:03, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

Reproduction

I need to check my references that unfortunately are not easily at hand these days (I worked on the control of wft in the UK about 15 years ago) but I thought that females had to mate to produce more females, unmated females produce males only. While it's true therefore that females are parthenogenic this is not the whole story and somewhat misleading. Maccheek (talk) 15:19, 9 March 2011 (UTC)
