The Yellow Dress Maiden

[edit]

I've recently read an article providing fairly strong evidence that the Yellow Dress Maiden is not the daughter of Yang Guo and Xiaolongnv, but of Yang Guo and Guo Fu. It provides compelling (I would even say irrefutable) arguments within the text of the novels that between the end of Shen Diao Xia Lv and Yi Tian Tu Long Ji, Xiaolongnv has passed away and Yang Guo eventually ended up with Guo Fu, and the Yellow Dress Maiden is their descendant.

The article was based on writings of Chen Mo (陈墨), a famous Jin Yong scholar, and Jin Yong himself has to some extent admitted that Chen's views are accurate, and that specifically, the hidden theme within Shen Diao Xia Lv is that Yang Guo's real love is Guo Fu and not Xiaolongnv.

Unfortunately there isn't an English version of the article that I can find. In any case, someone should consider adding a section in regarding this, as it is a strong hidden theme throughout both Shen Diao and Yi Tian. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 198.53.242.233 (talk) 04:27, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

June 20, 2008 edit

[edit]

I removed the erroneous reference to the heroic Yang family. Please try to stay to what is known in the context of the novel. There is no known connection between Yang Zai Xing and the Yang family. I also added some qualifiers to the descriptions of Yang Guo's early years. For example, the old version insinuates that young YG spent significant time with Guo Jing. GJ simply took him in for less than a year. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.224.174.56 (talk) 06:09, 20 June 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Editing

[edit]

Edited a large portion of the article, up to "Melancholic Palms" - feel free to discuss any changes.

Too much martial arts

[edit]

Is it just me, or are there far too much details on the martial arts, not enough in the story progression and interpretations? Jinyong's novels are appealing not so much because of the kungfu, but the exploration of characters and underlying theme (that's how I feel anyway). It's an arduous job, but it has to be addressed.--Alexio 10:21, 2 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yang Ji Ye

[edit]

I took out the reference to Yang Ji Ye. There is no evidence that Yang Zai Xing is a descendent of Yang Ji Ye. They are both named Yang, that's all.

I agree. The reference to the heroic Yang family should be removed too. Terrible job, whoever put that misinformation in originally.

Ok, some punk put the Yang Ye misinformation in there again. I just removed it.

Yang Zaixing

[edit]

If you read Chinese, you can take a look at this page. There're two men with the same name "Yang Zaixing" (楊再興) from the Song Dynasty era.

The first one is the more famous general who served as one of Yue Fei's subordinates in the war between Song and Jin. He was killed in action in Henan in 1140 at the age of 36. Interestingly, according to the page, this Yang Zaixing is also a descendant of a famous person. His ancestor is Yang Zaisi (楊再思), a minister who served in the court of Empress Wu Zetian during the Tang Dynasty period.

The second one is a descendant of Yang Ye (楊業) and the Generals of the Yang Clan (楊家將). Not much is known about him. He is mentioned in Zizhi Tongjian chapter 130. He was put to death in 1154.

We can thus conclude that the two of them are not the same person, deducing from the respective times they died. The Yang Zaixing mentioned in Louis Cha's novels is more likely to be the first one. Lonelydarksky (talk) 08:39, 30 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

TV shows only

[edit]

To address Alexio's point, I agree. I get the feeling that whoever has been editting this article knows Yang Guo from tv shows only. When you watch a wuxia tv show, the main drawing point is the martial arts. YG is a very complex and interesting character, and warrants an in depth look into his personality.

It's also clear that whoever did the edit doesn't have neutrality in mind.
