Birth year[edit]

According to Los Angeles Times obituary [1], Vickers was 82 and born in 1928. Could someone please clarify and perhaps add to the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.69.14.117 (talk) 07:29, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Many ohter sources list her birth year as 1936, including the cited Playmate database. This would make her 23 years old when she posed for Playboy, which seems about right. I'm going to change the birthyear in the article to 1936. Wkharrisjr (talk) 13:29, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I just found Yvette and her parents in the 1930 US Census living in Ventura, California. her birth year is 1928.Who would have thought a Hollywood actress would lie about her age! :-0 Wkharrisjr (talk) 14:13, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What's up with the anonymous IP in later April knowing Vicker's death?[edit]

I'm talking about this edit from this user. Google news shows no hits for Vickers death during April. Is it just a coincidence? --Evud (talk) 09:22, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Sources say her body was found April 27. While the mainstream press may have waited for an official ID (and perhaps time to research the obit), that doesn't mean the story wasn't floating around on social networks etc. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 16:58, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Possibly. The first hit on Twitter is May 1st. --Evud (talk) 07:23, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Error[edit]

IMDb Born:Yvette Vedder August 26, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri, USA Caroline Rossini (talk) 19:11, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

IMDB isn't considered a reliable source for biographical data, just filmographies and other production related info. For example, I myself have an IMDb entry. My filmography info was provided by the film-makers that I worked for and not fans. Meanwhile, biographical data can be added by anyone. See WP:RS/IMDB for more on this.
I've also added a secondary source which is reliable and supports the Vedder/1928 info. Dismas|(talk) 07:54, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The Playmate database also lists her bith year as 1936, which seems more reasonable.Wkharrisjr (talk) 13:32, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
The Playmate database predominantly gets its info from the Playmate data sheets in each issue which are written by the Playmates. So they're primary sources. I thought that secondary is preferred over primary for birth dates. Dismas|(talk) 13:46, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Why are secondary sources preferable over primary sources?Wkharrisjr (talk) 14:14, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
On the theory that they've been "peer-reviewed" or at least checked for accuracy. No guarantees, of course. ←Baseball Bugs What's up, Doc? carrots→ 18:58, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Pornbio[edit]

IMHO, "pornbio"- as measurements of bust etc- is not encyclopedic information, no matter how much pornfantasts would claim so. An article about someone who has his or her fame from the world of porn, should and must be built of other information than this kind of trivia. Greswik (talk) 19:53, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

In the abstract, in the general case, I would agree with you (although I don't think Playboy should be included within the classification of porn as Wikipedia uses the term). However, I'd make an exception to the general case for Playboy centerfolds, not because of any opinions I hold, but because I've come across academic/cultural studies which (quite reasonably) use the Playmate as a standard for reflecting (or directing) American male fantasy images of women and noting changes in their proportions (especially chestiness) as indicating changes in cultural norms. Hullaballoo Wolfowitz (talk) 20:33, 3 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. There have been at least three scientific studies (that I know of) which have used Playmate data for their data. Dismas|(talk) 07:56, 4 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

WHY is this in the 'scope of wiki pornogrpahy'?[edit]

This woman modeled ONE time for Playboy-and 'several other mens magazines'? Just which ones were they? A one time playmate in 1959 barely constitutes a porno portal for Yvette!! She was more of a movie actress than a porno model.

Why not use horror movie project? Why not a Film Portal? Bio portal? Death? Anything else BUT PORN.

Its demeaning--besides which she did more in regards to her acting career, including articles and books vs playboy! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.98.228.142 (talk) 01:29, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I agree and removed porno tag. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 16:05, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
It's pretty well established that Playboy centerfolds fall under the Wikipedia Project Pornography. Though the subject here was known for many other things as well. Guy1890 (talk) 02:55, 23 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
