Template:Find a Grave cemetery displays an external link to a cemetery's page on the Find a Grave website. It is intended for use in the external links section of the article about that cemetery.

Usage[edit]

Unnamed parameters:

Parameters[edit]

id or crid (parameter 1, required) –The Find a Grave cemetery number, listed on that cemetery's entry page
name (parameter 2, optional) – The name of the cemetery. Defaults to the article name if not specified.

Examples[edit]

To add a link for Arlington National Cemetery, look up the corresponding page on findagrave.com. Note the cemetery ID listed on the page, in this case 49269. Using that number:

or:

* {{Find a Grave cemetery | id= 49269 }}

on the Arlington National Cemetery article, will display as:

Arlington National Cemetery at Find a Grave

If the article name is not the same as the name of the cemetery, include the cemetery's name as the second parameter. For example:

* {{Find a Grave cemetery | 1622292 | Saint Augustine's Cemetery }}

or:

* {{Find a Grave cemetery | id= 1622292 | name= Saint Augustine's Cemetery }}

displays as:

Saint Augustine's Cemetery at Find a Grave

Missing ID and using Wikidata property P2025:

* {{Find a Grave cemetery}}

pulls the Cemetery ID from Wikidata and uses the page title. On the Cypress Hills Cemetery (New York City) article, it will display as:

Cypress Hills Cemetery at Find a Grave

Missing ID and no Wikidata:

* {{Find a Grave cemetery}}

if the article's Wikidata item does not have the Find a Grave property, this will display as:

{{Find a Grave cemetery}} template missing ID and not present in Wikidata.

Usage guidance[edit]

Care should be taken when deciding to include a link to the Find a Grave website, as cemetery entries there can be created by any user, although curation of the site's cemetery entries is more tightly controlled than curation of individual memorials is.

To comply with WP:ELNO, only use this template in a Wikipedia cemetery entry's "External links" section if the Find a Grave cemetery entry contains unique information not already mentioned and cited in the body of the article and is not a WP:COPYLINK violation. Remove from "External links" if Find a Grave is already cited in the article's main body, if cemetery information is provided in the main body by a more reliable source, or if the page contains any unlicensed copyrighted information (e.g., professional photography).

As a reference for article content

Find a Grave is not considered by some to qualify as a reliable source. Whenever appropriate reliable sources discuss the same material, editors are encouraged to prefer those to a Find a Grave link.
