Scope of template[edit]

Given that this template has been applied to a number of articles that are in the urban area, but not actually located in Ottawa (e.g. Talk:Terrasses de la Chaudière), perhaps the wording of the template should be revised slightly to refer to "This article is part of WikiProject Ottawa, an attempt to better organize information in articles related to Ottawa and Canada's National Capital Region." (proposed new text in italics). Skeezix1000 15:16, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with this change. A comment has also been left on Talk:Canadian Museum of Civilization. That article once listed "buildings in ottawa" and "museums in Quebec" which doesn't make sense since Ottawa is not in Quebec.
An alternative would be to change "Ottawa" to "Ottawa-Gatineau" but that would be a little more disruptive. You'd have to change the flag in the template to something else. The flag is questionable in the template anyway, since Wikipedia does not allow "fair use" images in templates. One disadvantage of the suggestion is that it's a little insulting to Gatineau, making it into a suburb of Ottawa not important enough even to be named. When you say "National Capital Region", you're not really referring to parts of Ontario beyond the Ottawa city limits, so you haveto be doing that to include the Quebec side. All things considered, the suggestion is at least an improvement on the existing wording. Canadiana 13:22, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The National Capital Region does extend beyond Ottawa's boundaries on the Ottawa side, but you're right, the proposed rewording would certainly make the use of the template on Gatineau-related articles more logical. Skeezix1000 15:46, 26 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Gatineau folks can start their own Wikiproject. Ottawa is not Gatineau. GreenJoe 18:53, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the advice, GreenJoe. But given that this was already subject of discussion, the better approach would have been to raised the issue again, rather than making unilateral edits. Ottawa is not Gatineau, but both are part of the Natioanl Capital Region and form the same metropolitan region. Skeezix1000 19:38, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see any consensus on what you did. Reverting. GreenJoe 19:41, 1 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Default sort key for categories[edit]

I am trying to change the sort-key for this template in category: WikiProject Ottawa, but I cannot use wp:Hotcat to do that. Can someone fix the template please? Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 15:45, 17 October 2016 (UTC)please ping me[reply]
