The Metros |

The Metros are a five-piece punk pop band from Peckham, south London, England.[1] Founded by vocalist Saul Adamczewski and lead guitarist Jak Payne, the band were formed while most of the members were still at school.[2]
Background
The Metros are from a musical background—Adamczewski's father designed record sleeves for A&M and Payne's father played session bass for Glenn Tilbrook. Based on the strength of their demos (produced by Baxter Dury, son of Ian Dury), in 2006 they signed to 1965 Records by James Endeacott (who had previously signed The Libertines, The Strokes and The View), when all five members were still under 18. The Guardian described them as "Punk'n'roll urchins".[3]
Formerly known as The Wanking Skankers, the band changed the name for "commercial reasons". They list Squeeze, Ian Dury and The Beastie Boys as their major influences.[2]
Their debut single, "Education Pt. 2", was released on March 17 2008. Their second single, "Last of the Lookers", will be released on June 2 2008.
Live music
In summer 2007, The Metros played at T in the Park, Bestival, the Hackney Underage Festival, The Great Escape in Brighton, the Skegness Big Reunion Festival[3], and the BBC Electric Proms[4]. They were booked to support The Coral, but were replaced at the last minute due to their behaviour.[1] They went on to support Jack Peñate alongside Adele.
The band supported Madness at a special gig in aid of The Teenage Cancer Trust on 3 April 2008, at the Royal Albert Hall.[5]
They are booked to play the Radio 1/NME Stage at the 2008 Reading and Leeds festivals. Helena is their biggest fan and was their original fan and she loves the metros very, very much. [6]
