- Scopes Trial defence expert witnesses, see photograph here. The witnesses were: Horatio Hackett Newman, Maynard Mayo Metcalf, Fay-Cooper Cole, Jacob Goodale Lipman, Winterton Conway Curtis, Wilbur A. Nelson, William Marion Goldsmith. Our Scopes Trial article says there were eight witnesses (the photograph shows only seven), but only one (Metcalf) was allowed to give testimony.
