The painting The River / On the banks of the Seine at Benne Court painted by Claude Monet in 1868, is considered one of his earliest impressionist works. In the foreground, a woman sits on the banks of the Seine On the river floats a boat under the trees. On the opposite bank there is a village which is reflected with the surrounding landscape in the water. The picture is painted with light brush strokes

During his travels he always brought with him his artist materials and painted the places he visited. In December 1883 Monet and Renoir took a trip to the South of France. Beginning with the 1884 Monet returned to paint to the Mediterranean this time alone. On this triphe painted the the image Bordighera , whichrepresnts the style he found during teses trips, the typical style of these images. In the foreground is an arabesque of twisted olive trees. In the background, the village and sea can be seen. Monet uses different colours in thses images such as pink , orange , ultramarine and turquoise blue , which he previously hardly used. the bright blue of the sea particularly striking.
