Automatic Ticket Vending Machine (ATVM) ... Introduction ATVM is a type of vending machine installed by the Indian Railways, which serves tickets to customers by reading a special kind of card (called Smart Card). This machine has been introduced recently in Indian Railways, in the Sub-urban sections of various Zones. Now, it is just a matter of few seconds to get an unreserved ticket. ATVM is becoming more popular day by day throughout India due to less consumption of time and hassle freeness. History of ATVM in India Automatic Ticket Vending Machines were first introduced in India by the Western and Central Railway on 10th October, 2007. Later on this system was introduced by the Central Railway, Northern Railway, South-Central Railway, Southern Railway, Eastern Railway, South-Eastern Railway, and East-Coast Railway. In Eastern India ATVMs were first introduced by the Eastern Railway on 7th July 2011, when five kiosks were installed at Howrah, two at Bardhaman and one at Bandel. South-Eastern Railway introduced the system on 26th September 2011. East-Coast Railway implemented it as recently as on December 14, 2011.
