Central Dallas Ministries is an American non-profit organization operating in Texas.
It was founded in 1988 by members of the Preston Road Church of Christ[1], and became a separate 501(c)(3) organization in 1990. It began doing business as Central Dallas Ministries ("CDM") in 1994. Within three years, the agency had grown to operate the largest food pantry in Dallas.
Over time, the organization's leaders decided that a broader outreach was needed in order to deal with deeper issues associated with poverty. CDM became a community development organization that includes workforce training, housing programs, health clinics, legal aid, technology education, a transitional program for youth leaving foster care programs, diabetes education, an AmeriCorps partnership, a book discussion club, and programs to foster volunteerism. In total, between the Dallas metropolitan area and a second organization based in San Antonio,[2], CDM was serving more than 50,000 people as of 2007.
The agency's chief executive is Larry James, former minister for the Richardson East Church of Christ in Richardson, Texas.
