Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman[edit]

Asssigned Independent Duty Corpman (NEC 8403), combat medics in the United States Navy attached to the Fleet Marine Force. Special Amphibious Reconnaissance Corpsman, or SARC are vital member of FORECON, there has been moments that SARCs have been assigned as team leaders as well.

  • Performs duties as an HM 8427 as described above.
  • Performs diagnostic patient care as well as associated operational, administrative, and logistical duties.
  • Performs basic anesthesia, minor surgical, basic clinical laboratory, basic radiology, and other routine and emergency health care procedures as required.
  • Instructs and advises junior medical and operational personnel in prevention and treatment of illness and injuries.
  • Performs all patient care and medical management functions as set forth in chapter 9 of the Manual of the Medical Department (MANMED) operating independently of physicians and function as health care providers.
  • Provides Medical and Operational services for FMF reconnaissance personnel engaged in amphibious reconnaissance & surveillance and other missions as directed by higher headquarters.
  • Performs routine sick call, preventive medicine, ATLS, ACLS, minor surgical procedures, paramedic skills, and other routine and emergent procedures as required.
  • Instructs and advises operational personnel in measures for prevention of illness and treatment of injuries associated with swimming, combat diving, military free fall, and amphibious operations.
  • Assesses and treats diving related medical disorders.
  • Trained in the operation of recompression chambers.
  • Trained as inside tender to care for patients suffering from diving related injuries or other conditions requiring hyperbaric medical treatment.
  • Performs diving and airborne operations, in direct support of reconnaissance operations.
