APA[edit]

APA is a system of Self Protection developed specifically for use by Taiwan Police and was adopted as their mode of training officially from 1985 when it was publicly displayed for the first time on National Television on National Day, Double Ten Day. APA is strictly for Law Enforcement and Government agencies and is not open to the General Public.

Origin & History[edit]

In the 1980's due to an increase in crime to levels not seen before the then Secretary General of Taiwan's National Security Bureau issued a National Directive for the creation of a National SWAT Command to provide an answer to the increasing amount of violent crime. After an Island wide search APA was chosen as the new system to be used by the newly formed National SWAT Command. Training included Hand to Hand Combat, Riot Control and Speacial Weapons and Tactics. APA was created by Chief Instructor Chris Mar.

Criticism[edit]

APA has been in use since it was unveiled to the public in 1985 on a National Television Broadcast. This broadcast was initially well received but after the day of the event their was some criticism of the extreme nature of demonstrations with some calling it too violent for a National Broadcast.
