Arthur was born in 1857 in New York City, and died 13 Apr 1906 in New York City. He is the founder of the fashion publication Vogue. Arthur was the son of David Mitchell Turnure and Mary S. Baldwin. He married Elizabeth Harrison on 20 May 1890 in Trinity Episcopal Church, New Rochelle, NY, daughter of Jared Francis Harrison and Caro Farnsworth ^[1].

Vogue[edit]

The first issue of Vogue was published on 17th December 1892. Socialite Josephine Redding was hired as the first editor. One of her tasks was to find a name for the then weekly newspaper. According to rumours, Redding browsed a dictionary until she found a name which she thought fitted the publication. She settled on 'Vogue', a word then used to define something which is in fashion or popular at a certain time. In addition to fashion related articles, it featured the cultural tastes of upper class Victorian society such as their love of music^[2]>.
