Ilir Hoxha is an Albanian architect and writer. His father Enver Hoxha was the leader of the Socialist People's Republic of Albania until his death in 1985.

Life[edit]

Thirteen years after his father's 1985 death, he published a memoir of his father entitled My Father, Enver Hoxha. It describes his father's death, his exhumation, and the year Hoxha spent in both Tirana and Kavaja prisons. After an interview he gave to the newspaper Modeste, in which he defended Enver Hoxha's regime and criticized Sali Berisha's government, he was charged under article 56 of the penal code regarding incitement of national hatred and placed under house arrest on April 17, 1995. In May 1995 he was initially sentenced to one year in prison, although it was upheld after he appealed against the ruling. Critics consider the first ruling politically motivated as they consider that leniency towards Hoxha would be perceived as support for the former communist regime of Albania.[1]
