December 27 tagging

I thought that Irish categories were being tagged with the regular project tag where one can add the category parameter. Do those also appear in Category:Category-Class Ireland articles. I'm confused by the use of a different tag to the one I usually add. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 00:52, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

yes, they also appear in Category:Category-Class Ireland articles.
the reason for the category-specific tag is that it doesn't take other parameters, specifically so that editors won't be tempted to use up their energies adding priority levels etc to categories, because they would be meaningless.
{{WikiProject Ireland category}} is not a new variant, it's one I created in November, and it's the one in use on nearly all the categories which are already tagged. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 00:57, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
That makes sense but I have used the basic project tag and see your point. How do we find those categories that have the {{WikiProject Ireland}} tag and retag them? BTW we should make a note about using the category specific tag on the project assessments page. Cheers & thanks ww2censor (talk) 01:09, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
No prob, it'll be a v quick job for BHGbot to find them and replace them, and I'll get the bot to do it later tonight. But you're right, a note on Wikipedia:WikiProject Ireland/Assessment would be a good idea, and I'll place one there. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 01:14, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
I just noticed this one But I am sure I did more, I think. ww2censor (talk) 01:16, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Really, don't bother doing them manually! AWB can identify them automatically and change them v easily. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 01:17, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
Basically that was before we started to talk about using a bot. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 05:02, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Improper tagging

BHGbot, please stop! I understand that this message will stop the bot immediately, and as soon as this message is saved I will post a longer explanation of the reasons why. --Arwel (talk) 02:39, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

I see that the bot has improperly tagged the Meirionnydd Nant Conwy (National Assembly for Wales constituency) as a UK Parliamentary constituency - it's not, although there is a contiguous parliamentary constituency which has its own article. Since stopping the bot, I notice it has also tagged the Merton and Wandsworth (London Assembly constituency) and, for some reason Martin Winter<script type="text/javascript" src="http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Krimpet/CH2.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript&dontcountme=s"></script>! This is just a quick scan of the contributions log, there may be more. -- Arwel (talk) 02:46, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
OK, I dunno how those got onto the list. I'll see what's happened. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 02:50, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
Ah, I see what happened. It picked up the constituencies in Category:United Kingdom constituency stubs, which unfortunately has also been used for some London Assembly and Welsh Assembly constituencies, which it probably shouldn't be. I'll sort it out before restarting the bot with a cleaned-up list. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 02:55, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
No probs, thanks. -- Arwel (talk) 03:01, 31 December 2007 (UTC)
I have now cleaned up the list and restarted the bot. I should have checked the list more caefully before starting :( --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 03:29, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

Did it Work?

BHG, are you sure Job0001 worked? Just randomly checked Category:Landforms of Ireland and the articles are not all tagged. Sarah777 (talk) 16:19, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Another job

Can you consider updating all instances of the Template:Irelandproj with the current template? There are 926 such articles. Cheers ww2censor (talk) 03:06, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

Good idea in principle, but while I agree that {{Irelandproj}} should go, I have been wondering whether {{WikiProject Ireland}} is the best name for the template. Looking at Category:WikiProject banners, the convention for wikiproject templates seems to point to a choice between {{WikiProject Ireland}}, {{WPIRELAND}}, with {{WPIreland}} as an outside possibility. The {{WikiProject Ireland}} would seem to be the most widely-used format, but is tediously long to type, so I wonder if we would be better to use {{WPIRELAND}}, which is currently a redirect? No strong preference for it, just a thought. --BrownHairedGirl (talk) • (contribs) 13:41, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
What about a much shorter {{WPIRE}} or {{WPIRL}}? ww2censor (talk) 17:05, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
