I'm glad you agree. The fact that the Chinese government is so worried about Tibet that they're willing to present this child as a false Lama most definitely IS relevant, and therefore the child himself is as well. Distasteful subjects can still be encyclopedic - check out Did Six Million Really Die?; I'm quite pleased with the job I did, making it properly NPOV despite it being about an utterly loathsome topic.
