Silas Simmons[edit]

Greetings,

In regards to Silas Simmons and the work you have done on this case, I was wondering a few things:

A. You interpreted the marriage record as saying '1893,' but it appears it could be '1897' or even '1892.' Do you have a higher-resolution image? What led to the '1893' conclusion? Does something else in the book say that?

B. Was Silas listed in Total Baseball or the Baseball Encyclopedia before you 'discovered' him (though Silas didn't know he was missing!)?

C. Would you and/or the family be interested in submitting a claim to Guinness World Records for 'longest-lived baseball player'?

D. Do you have any documents earlier than 1915 for Mr. Simmons? Is there a family Bible?

We can assume the census is wrong if we have a lot of evidence to the contrary. The 1915 marriage license is intriguing because the birth year listed does not appear to be 1895, but could be 1897, 1893, or 1892.
