Images from your website

[edit]

Hi, I understand you have given Wikipedia permission to use images from your website. Images used on Wikipedia have to be compatible with the GFDL which means that there cannot be any restrictions on subsequent commercial use of the images. I'm not sure that you were made aware of this, if it ok with you that the images may also be used commerically please let me know, otherwise the images will have to be deleted from Wikipedia.--nixie 03:12, 30 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DirkPS 20:39, 10 March 2006 (UTC)To all authors : Please make sure my site is credited whenever my images are used as follows :[reply]

Due to people taking liberties images may no longer be uploaded from my site to wikipedia without my written permission.

Thiago Motta pic

[edit]

I think I was able to identify the person. It's Gabriel García de la Torre. See http://www.uefa.com/competitions/UCL/Players/Player=27344/index.html. It looks a lot like him. (Also, I will stop uploading pictures from your site as per your request.) BrownCow • (how now?) 00:03, 11 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DirkPS 00:40, 11 March 2006 (UTC) Thank you BrownCow.[reply]

I want to explain my decision.

I was approached by a fellow soccer newsgroup poster requesting the use of some of my images for wikipedia entries. I was happy to oblige.

Eventually a category was created within wikipedia for these images which stated, as per my request, they could be used provided credit was given.

We've reached the stage where almost 200 images (from over 650) from my website are in wikipedia and can be used by any party on the internet because of wikipedia's free license laws. I've never been happy with the licence laws and hope you can appreciate my position and understand why I feel it's necessary to try and stop what amounts to my gallery being migrated to wikipedia even though that was not your intention.

I've also spent what seems like an eternity editing each page in which the images are used because in many cases my website wasn't credited or linked to.

I think I've done my bit for wikipedia, it's time for UEFA, FIFA, the BBC and others to give up some of their images!

Stop uploading the black box

[edit]

Please discuss with me here what needs to be done about these images. -SCEhardT 21:51, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It appears here that you have released rights to these images, except the provision that you must be credited as the author. Is this not correct? -SCEhardT 21:57, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Everything marked with the black box should be removed from wikipedia. -DirkPS

Please explain that in context with this letter. -SCEhardT 21:59, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The images are clearly not screen grabs, otherwise there would be channel logos, scores, and various other on screen graphics. Purchasing photos at a 'low' resolution keeps costs down - there's a reason why websites such as the BBC, sky sports, eurosport etc, etc don't have full screen photos on their pages. See examples here :

http://home.skysports.com/matchreport.asp?fxid=278949&CPID=8&channel=skysports_home_page

The DirkPS license was intended for users to use a HANDFUL of images from my website within wikipedia, the intention was not to grant free reign for users to upload dozens of photos every month.

The use of the license has been made clear yet these privileges are still being abused :

This category contains images taken from http://DirkPS. However, images on that site are not free for the taking by the general public. This category is reserved for use by User:DirkPS.

If you cannot prevent users from taking photos from my website and uploading them to the DirkPS images tag then remove all images and close the tag.

I am not happy that you have restored photos I marked for deletion. Please remove them.

Sorry for the confusion. I will go through the DirkPS category and delete all the images uploaded by users other than yourself. In the future, please discuss any problems like this with an administrator rather than uploading boxes. Thanks -SCEhardT 22:35, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DirkPS 22:40, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

With regards to some of the older images I had no problem with releasing the rights to them. The ones I wanted to remove where marked for deletion. If you prefer I can give you a list of images that I would like deleted.

Yes, please make a list of the images that need to be deleted. Also, we will need to do something to make the license on the remaining images more clear. Go ahead and make the list, and I will think about the best way to proceed with the remaining images. -SCEhardT 22:52, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DirkPS 23:18, 17 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove the following :

These photos are not from my wesbite so should be placed in another catagory :

I have deleted all the images for which you uploaded the black image. I'm sorry you've encountered more problems since our previous discussion, but you understand that giving your permission and the recinding it has confused some editors. Please check the category page to see if I've missed any. Thanks, ed g2stalk 00:19, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DirkPS 00:34, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. People were taking liberties with my photos, I never imagined 100s would end up here so had to take action.

Excuse me for being slightly sceptical, but you do have a rather large number of images, from stadia across Europe. Are we to assume that you attend all these mathces with a long lens camera? And if so, what line of work allows you to dedicate such time to this? These photos do appear like news agency photos to the casual observer, so a proper explanation would be most helpful. ed g2stalk 00:38, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DirkPS 02:18, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't take the photos myself, I run a soccer website and have been for many years and over that period of time have made several contacts. I'm obviously not going to reveal my sources. If the images were from the AP they would have been in touch with me long ago.

Next step

[edit]

As it stands, it is unclear which images have been released irrevocably by you and which ones have not. Part of the problem is the template placed on the images, since such a template would generally only be used if all of the images from a certain website were released under the same license. Since this is not the case, I would like you to go through the remaining images in the DirkPS category and do the following (by clicking 'edit this page'):

  • remove the {{SocEur}} template
  • replace it with the following:
{{CopyrightedFreeUseProvidedThat|http://DirkPS is credited}} ~~~~

This means that the image may be used anywhere (on or off Wikipedia) provided that your webiste is credited. Please keep in mind that only you can grant this permission, and it will not be possible to revoke the permission.

Once you have updated all the images, I will delete the DirkPS template and category to avoid any future confusion. Thanks! -SCEhardT 02:22, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DirkPS 17:37, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'll give you another list of images I want removing (in order to prevent them from being used by commercial websites) then will manually remove the tags from the other images.

DirkPS 21:22, 18 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please remove the following :

I will probably give you one more list once this is done and then remove all the tags and replace them with the text you suggested.

DirkPS 23:49, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have amended the template as requested. Please remove the remaining 8 images and delete the old template.

DirkPS 23:30, 9 August 2006 (UTC) Why is it every time I check the pages in which my images are used my website is NEVER credited? I am sick and tired of this. It is a simple request.[reply]

I just saw this and I have, based on what I read here, moved the images into the article and listed your site as the holder of the copyright. They are all done similar to David Trézéguet. Let me know if this is OK. I have done John Arne Riise, Zinedine Zidane, Dejan Stankovic, Jon Dahl Tomasson, Cafu, José Manuel Reina Páez, Álvaro Recoba, Juan Román Riquelme, Henri Camara, Martin Laursen, David Trézéguet & Thierry Henry. Removal of images

[edit]

Hello.

Given the mandatory link to your website in every article that uses images from your website, I plan to remove all the images from the articles.

Best regards,

Kwame Nkrumah 13:14, 19 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Dude, this is YOUR preference. Find replacement photos first before deleting them. --Palffy 16:34, 20 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Images listed for deletion

[edit]

Based on discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Football#DirkPS images it has been decided that we will not accept images from your web site on Wikipedia any longer, given that they are very suspiciously similar to screenshots from BBC, Sky Sports, and ITV. As such, they are now all listed for deletion. Please see Wikipedia:Images and media for deletion/2006 September 5 for discussion. Regards, howcheng {chat} 17:50, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

DirkPS 00:07, 10 October 2006 (UTC) I have no problem with the photos being deleted but to claim they are ‘suspiciously similar to screenshots from BBC, Sky Sports, and ITV’ shows you are not familiar with British Television, many of the matches are not even screened on these channels.[reply]

Removal of talk:DirkPS

[edit]

Sorry, this does not apply to user talk pages. It needs to remain for reference purposes. -SCEhardT 17:57, 12 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see why not, but I can't do it myself. I am an admin, and it takes a bureaucrat to do that (they have a higher access level). -SCEhardT 01:02, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Rename

[edit]

As requested, I have renamed you as User:DirkPS. You should now move your userpages to the new name. Warofdreams talk 10:46, 15 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:Removed.jpg

[edit]

Thank you for uploading File:Removed.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 10:14, 30 August 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 10:14, 30 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
