collective nouns vs plural nouns[edit]

hello ElectraShore – regarding some of your edits to The Rolling Stones, i wanted to point out this section of the article on differences between US and UK English, in hopes that it'll be helpful to you. Plural nouns (including band names that have a plural form) are plural in both varieties of English: The Rolling Stones are an English band, and the Four Seasons are an American group. but collective nouns (such as band or group) are treated differently in UK English than they are in US English. i reckon you're already aware of Wikipedia's policy of using UK English in articles about UK-related subjects; in articles about English bands phrases like "the band were on stage" may be quite correct. thanks Sssoul (talk) 05:37, 25 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
