Because the original article had no references, is exactly why it needed your contribution.  Some templates are automatically added and removed by Bots; but not immediately, sometimes it takes weeks.  I have removed the Article Reference template and added a Section Reference template to the first section.  You can remove the templates yourself when you edit a page if the template is no longer applicable.  It will appear in the edit text like {{Citation Needed}}.
