Note
[edit]You have no doubt noticed that you are blocked for 72 hours. This is because vandalism is still vandalism, even when it's Jon Stewart suggesting it, and that doesn't make it awesome or hilarious. Encouraging vandalism is never a good thing.
Even if it's just on the talk page, that's still encouraging people to try fucking around with it. That's why I blocked you for three days. I may have over-reacted, but that's an error of degree rather than an error of kind.
Do you understand why I did it? DS 04:30, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- I understand why you did it, but I don't think it's justified: please see my e-mail for the specific reasons why. The most important one is that thinking an instance of vandalism is funny, and saying so on a talk page, isn't a violation of wikipedia policy. It is certainly not a blockable violation of wikipedia policy, according to WP: Blocking Policy. I hope you will reconsider, so we don't have to become involved in an appeal over what is ultimately a minor dispute.Kanmalachoa 04:43, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- I would add to my list of reasons I think this block is unjustified the following, from WP: Blocking Policy: "The purpose of blocking is prevention, not punishment." I don't understand what preventive function this block could possibly serve.Kanmalachoa 04:43, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- Okay. Because it's late so I may have overreacted, and because you're polite and you clearly articulated your point, I am reducing your block from 72 hours to 12 hours (minus time served). DS 05:05, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- I appreciate it. I still believe that this is an error of kind, not just an error of degree. I also believe that the subsequent block you placed on my IP address violates WP:Assume Good Faith and is sort of insulting, since it seems to presume that I would create a sock-puppet account immediately upon being blocked. I understand that, as an admin, you have little patience for vandalism issues: you deal with a lot of them. That, and because it's not worth it at this point, is why I'm just going to let this whole situation go. But I guess I'd ask you to think about the words of caution all over WP policy about talking things out before you act, especially when it comes to blocking.Kanmalachoa 05:26, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- And as for blocking your IP and account creation - oops. That was a default setting which I didn't deactivate (it was past midnight). Sorry. DS 18:17, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
- No big deal, except that I'm still IP blocked, even though my user block is gone: I think you may need to unblock the IP block separately?Kanmalachoa 02:03, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
