Heritage Corridor diagram

Hello, I started (and immediately stopped) work on changes to an existing route diagram template and I thought you would be interested in having a look.

I started work on expanding the Heritage Corridor diagram to include large portions of the Sanitary & Ship Canal and the Des Plaines River, since they closely follow the commuter line. I decided not to finish for several reasons (mainly because it seems less than relevant), but if you are willing to offer an opinion, let me know. It is in my sandbox at the top.

Note that some icons are missing and incorrectly colored, I never started on the locks in Lockport, and the waterways are not labeled. Of course, if I decide to continue, those will all be fixed. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 21:00, 2 October 2023 (UTC)

I was concerned that additions like this would clutter the map making it difficult to read (for instance, the SWS map) but the Heritage Corridor additions look great! You bring up a valid point about about relevance. If you could tie the map in to the Illinois and Michigan Canal to connect the two "Heritage Corridors", then the addition would definitely be a winner, but with the canal's removal and replacement, making the situation clear seems like a difficult task. Perhaps I'll keep it separate from the existing diagram, cut away the rail line east of Summit and replace it with a continuation arrow, and put a caption at the bottom noting its location relative to the canals/river, and stick it all in a section of the HC rail page, sort of like a scenic railroad article. Especially since it is Rails, Trails, and Ales season. At this time, I cannot make the edits needed to make it presentable, but your input has me thinking it can indeed be a successful diagram, separate from the regular one. CTA Tower 18

I think it looks pretty good! The only thing I'd personally change is making the curves smaller that way you can use circular curves for both tracks (e.g. uSTRl and ukSTR2, ukSTRl+4, etc.) Lost on  Belmont  ^3200N_1000W  (talk) 17:21, 13 November 2023 (UTC)

@Lost on Belmont: I did initially try it at a smaller scale, but I stopped halfway through because it looked too cluttered. Also, the "k" curves overlapped at the opposite corners (ex. where the Pink Line exits the loop and the Purple Line enters) when in reality, they do not overlap, meaning Pink and Purple Line trains can travel through the junction at the same time without difficulties.

I also tried a larger scale, but it looked too clumsy so I didn't bother to finish that edit. But regardless, your input is appreciated and I will get to work on Tower 12. Hotdog with ketchup (talk) 19:10, 13 November 2023 (UTC)
