AfD nomination of Photo scanning[edit]

Photo scanning, an article you created, has been nominated for deletion. We appreciate your contributions. However, an editor does not feel that Photo scanning satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in the nomination space (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and the Wikipedia deletion policy). Your opinions on the matter are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Photo scanning and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~). You are free to edit the content of Photo scanning during the discussion but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion discussion. Thank you. Ten Pound Hammer(((Broken clamshellsOtter chirps))) 17:14, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Because the article is up for AFD, and because we do not "archive" articles like discussions sometimes are, I restored the article as it was before you for some reason "archived" it in this edit [1]. Please do not blank or otherwise remove the article while it is up for AFD, unless there is a reason such as it being a copy of some copyrighted work, which was not indicated. I think an article on photo scanning is very appropriate for Wikipedia. The subject has a long history. The illustration which is claimed to be the first scanned photo only dates back to 1957. Earlier facsimile machines date back to the 1840's, and photos were scanned with drum scanners and sent across the ocean by radio in the 1920's, per Fax and were commonly used in newspapers and police departments in the 1930s. Some clarification to narrow the scope of the claim for the baby photo is needed.I think all this article needs, to survive AFD, is some inline references. Where did the info come from for the various sections? Regards. Edison 17:51, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]
OK,, I see now that the text was copied from Image scanner and links to commercial scanning services were added. While the links would be helpful to all of us with a box full of old photos, I see that someone removed the links because some consider them "spam," however useful, and that leaves the article just a duplicate of what is in Image scanner. If you go to the AFD and request that the article be deleted or redirected to Image scanner that should allow it to swiftly occur. Image scanner needs improvement and needs a section specifically on photo scanning, which should be referenced to a book or magazine articles. There are many sources for such a section, and when it gets to be too big for the {{Image scanner]] article it could be split off into a separate article. Some object to an article sounding like "how to " instructions, but the article could talk about the image formats, issues with the resolution and storage space, to be used, cateloging systems, and photo restoration. Image scanning[edit]

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Image scanning. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policy for further explanations. Since Wikipedia uses nofollow tags, external links do not alter search engine rankings. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. Thank you. (Diff) Ford MF 22:34, 17 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
