Pointers[edit]

Ok here's a couple pointers that might help you out with the Smarthome article. First off, I'm no expert on Wikipedia's copyright policy or copyrights in general. Having said that, here's what I believe to be the jist of it: Wikipedia cannot accept regularly copyrighted text, even if the copyright owner grants permission. This is due to the nature of Wikipedia -- the content of Wikipedia if freely available for anyone to do what they wish with. As such, even if the copyright owner grants Wikipedia the right to use said text, Wikipedia would be out of compliance with copyrights because it then turns around and offers the content freely.

However, if the copyright owner were to re-license the content under the GFDL or a GFDL-compatible license, the content could be used here. Check out the following guidelines for information on how this could be done:

An alternative to all this work would be to simply put the content in your own words, and then use the source as a citation (see WP:CITE).

Regarding articles that sound like advertising, I can understand if you're closely affiliated with a subject how it may be difficult to write neutrally. On this I can only offer the following suggestions:

Try to stick to the facts that you know about your company.
Look for words that aren't necessary to convey those facts and remove them. For instance, instead of saying "Acme is the world's most leading and most trusted manufacturer of widgets" you could say "Acme was founded in 1851. It produces 1 million widgets each year." Ok that's not the best example, but hopefully you get the jist.
If all else fails, add the {{POV-check}} tag to the article yourself. Then on the talk page write something like "I started this article to provide information on Acme Co, but as the president of the company I am having difficulty writing from a neutral point of view. If someone could help re-word the article I'd appreciate it. Thanks! ~~~~"

Lastly, regarding links, when an article is about an organization or company it is appropriate to place an external link on an article's page to that organization or company's official website. However, adding links to that same company on other (even related) articles can be seen as "linkspam". See WP:EL and WP:SPAM for further information on this.

I'm glad you found this helpful. I definitely think the article is improving, especially the opening paragraph, however the rest still sounds advert-ish. If you could model the rest of the article off the first paragraph, I think it would be in great shape.

One other suggestion too - if you can dig up any reliable sources (see WP:RS) that discuss Smarthome, they could make excellent citations (WP:CITE) for content in the article. See the above 2 links as well as WP:V (Wikipedia verification guidelines) for more info on this.

Speedy deletion of Smarthome[edit]

A tag has been placed on Smarthome requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia.
