Hello, please write something! I expect I'm making mistakes, and tagging things wrong etc, so I would welcome feedback to help me learn the myriad of wikipedia systems...

Self Promotion copyright vios?[edit]

In working on WP:WWF I have come across two articles so far that have celarly been copy and pasted from an organisation's website:

In both cases, it is possible that person who put it there was self promoting the organsiation, in which case they may be happy for their content to be replicated on wikipedia. (the fact that the content is of the wrong tone is a sepaarte issue) I have posted {{copyvio}} on their talk pages. Is this the right way to deal with this? Also, how do you make a template such as the {{copyvio}} one fill in the blanks?

If you detect content that was copied from another website, you may insert this template on the article: {{copyvio|url=http://example.org}}. I hope this helps. Regards.--Húsönd 23:16, 17 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

New Idea[edit]

Once you scratch beneath the surface, the Wikpeidia editing world is prety complex and hard to find your way into - so many directives, guidelines, templates (particulary bad - how will you ever know that the one you need exists?), requests, protects, portals, arbitrations, etc etc it can be quite bewildering... I am thinking about proposing a new project: Simplify wikipidia editing by or cut down on the number of projects and consolidating. Another Portal is probably not the answer to this. If only I knew where to put it, or exactly how to pin the probems down...

Does anyone agree this is a problem? Once you lose that new user status is can probably be harder to see. Or does such a cleanup initaive already exist?

That's not really the type of question for the {{helpme}} system, you might like to visit the village pump and start a discussion there. --pgk 18:06, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Munro Pineapple Society, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. — mholland (talk) 18:44, 18 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Here is the text as was:

The Munro Pineapple Society (MPS) is a hillwalking and mountaineering club at the University of Nottingham. MPS was formed in the eighties by a faction of the University rambling society, Ramsoc, who broke away wanting to pursue more adventurous activities.

The core activity of MPS is Munro bagging, with the club making around 10 trips to Scotland each year to pursue this activity. The 'Pineapple' part of the name refers to some rocky outcrops in the peak district; Traditionally there is a competition in which club members attempt to boulder these. The club also does ice climbing, rock climbing and mountain marathons. Many members have built on expereince gained within the club to progress onto alpinism and more challenging mountaineering.

Why not add it as a subsection to the University page?

The article BabyCenter has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

WP:NN web site

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Toddst1 (talk) 18:09, 27 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I have nominated BabyCenter, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/BabyCenter. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Toddst1 (talk) 06:36, 2 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
