It is great to see someone active in Wikiproject Orissa. The project was dormant for a long time. I created some initial userboxes and templates. I had also created Portal:Orissa. But I do not know much about Odisha and did not wish to involve myself. Good to see that you, too, are residing in Bangalore. I shall not be able to attend the meet tomorrow. Jay Jagannath. I am excited to see your interest in Lord Jagannath. I have gone through your edits and appreciate those.

1. Your attempt to put Oriya script in the etymology part is laudable, but unfortunately it's still not working. Please consider to attempt with a different font.

2. I disagree with your edit that Jagannath is an 'epitome' of Lord Buddha. Your referred site [ambedkar.org/Tirupati/Chap3.htm], is neo-Buddhist propaganda page and the claims made therin are not reliable. Also for your kind information, Buddhists no longer visit the Jagannath temple for pilgrimage. Also see Buddhist pilgrimage, the name of Lord J. or Puri are completely missing. For the arguments and reasons of scholars like Starza, Panigrahi, Kulke, et al, it is more or less accepted in the academic circles that Buddhist origin of the Lord is redoubtable. The Crypto-Buddhist touch is due to the extensive assimilation that the Jagannath religion has gone through. Therefore, I am undoing & reverting certain part of your edits.

If you are not satisfied, we will discuss the issue further on Lord Jagannath's talk page.

3. Yes, I am sorry, Odia and Odisha are more appropriate.

Jaya Jagannatha. I am an Odia and a native speaker, if it is at all relevant.

1. It is never the assertion that "All Hinduism content are right and Buddhism are wrong" - the impression of Buddhism on the Lord's evolution is too obvious to be ignored. But what I contend is that 'Jagannath' at Puri is not an epitome of Buddha. Even if we accept that Lord J. is a buddhist deity, he can not be equated to Buddha/Gautama. Even in Indrabhuti's Jnana Siddhi, Jagannath was a deity whose consort was Vimala. 2. Use of Odia fonts is a most welcome thing, but if u use an open unicode type font, it would be better and the page would be legible in place of font errors like - "ଜଗନ୍ନାଥ" (5 squares) as I see on the screen. Please consider using *.jpg images in place. 3. Your contention that "simply deleting any content doesn't make the idea weaker that Jagannath doesn't have a similarity with any other Hindu deity" is not in proper direction. In view of this user, the idea that Jagannath is a tribal deity [Jaganeola/Jagana Kittung/Dadhi vaman/Purusottam Narasimha], who has been subsequently assimilated into Hinduism is undoubtable. I certainly agree that the Lord's origins are not in Hinduism, but I strongly disagree that it is Buddhist, instead. 4. Any topic on a deity can never be secular, by whatever measure. There has to be religious angles.

Edits to Jagannath Article: Regarding:

1. Thanks for the link: http://or.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Typing_%26_Input_Support_for_Odia_(Oriya). All Odia text are back in the recent edit. Actually had removed them earlier unknowingly.
2. Yes, "Jagata" is more correct than "Jagat" in Odia. Changed accordingly.
3. Jagannatha in Odia is NOT derived from the sandhi of Odia words "Jagata" and "Natha", but it is a Shashthi tatpurusha ‘samasa’ (compound) – Jagata ra Natha – Jagannath. In Sanskrit, Jagatasya natham iti Jagannath…It is a tatsam word and not a sandhi.
4. You have wrote "Subhaschandra Patnaik (Book- Jayadebanka baisi pahacha), Satyanarayan Rajaguru (in His book published from Odisha Sahitya Academy) and Subrata Prusty (Book published from Friend's Publisher) affirms the logic of Jagannatha is the oldest ever found idol of Buddha. With due respect to their intellect and geniuses, these authors lack authenticity, if one may argue so. Your assertion that: “His (Jagannatha’s) iconographics representation without hands and feet is approximating to the meditating Buddha” is unwarranted on account of many factors of iconography. The basic fact is that all meditating deities have images with closed eyes and not those wide open ones like those of Lord Jagannath. It is a basic flaw in the Buddhist argument. There are lot others. We can discuss it elsewhere.
5. Your edit that “Jagannath has been accepted as an incarnation of Buddha” is erroneous. Later on you went on to claim that “Sarala Das, one of the best ancient poets, says in the Sabha Parva of his Mahabharata that "Jagannath has appeared in the form of Buddha to redeem the people of the world." – that is Buddha is an incarnation of Jagannath. Jagannath is the avatara or the avataree? Assertions contradicting one another. In fact, if one may argue so, both are wrong.
6. No deity of the Savara tribe had ever turned into Buddhist deity!!! Buddhism never entered into the wilderness.

These authors lack authenticity? Will you please go through their whereabouts to find find out and research for their work before questioning on their authenticity of the books published by Odisha Sahitya Academy and Friends publisher, and FYI Subhakanta Behera, popular Odia author and Indian Ambassador also has written about this in the preface along with the text saying Pali is the ancient form of modern Odia language, the same language in which Buddha preached to his disciples. And moreover the Buddha statue of Dhauli and other places are not how Buddha was looking, they are just statues, even Jagannatha's idol cannot also be how Buddha was looking, in fact he wanted his disciples not to use his idol and compared to all the available statues of Buddha, statue of Lord Jagannatha is the oldest one. And Jaganatha culture has impact from several different religion, but it's unique and doesn't belong to any particular religion. And Sabara and Jagannatha being a Sabara Debata and respective is a new prediction and was made long after Buddha's departure, so when the time span is considered and iconographic dis-resemblance of Jagannatha with any other deity of any other religion proves the fact that it's pointless of you trying to potray him as a Sabara Debata or me trying to cite text about the Buddhism connection, my suggestion will be keep all the cited fact without simply deleting them just because none is asking why. Be it Hindu, Buddhism or Sabara, let all the cited text be there without deleting any. --ସୁଭପାSubha Pa^Utter2me! 19:36, 14 May 2011 (UTC)
