Greetings, Rmphan.

I've noticed the little tussle over the Arkansas and LSU NCAA tournament championships vs. "claimed championships," as listed in the Southeastern Conference article, that has been recurring over the past several weeks. At some point, I was perplexed enough to pull up the relevant Arkansas Razorbacks media guides and count the total NCAA tournament championships won by the Razorbacks over the years. For the record, the Razorbacks total NCAA tournament championships is forty-one (41):

  • Men's basketball - 1
  • Men's cross country - 11
  • Men's indoor track & field - 19
  • Men's outdoor track & field - 10

That's a total of 41 NCAA tournament championships; in addition to those 41 NCAA championships, the Razorbacks also claim a 1964 football poll championship. The 1964 football championship was not an NCAA championship, however, and that is why it is not listed in the "NCAA tournament championships" section. The NCAA does not, and has never, sponsored any sort of playoff or tournament championship in major college football. Hence the distinction between "claimed championships" and NCAA championships. For instance, LSU has won 42 NCAA championships, but has also won 1 football poll championship in 1958 and 2 BCS football championships in 2003 and 2007. You will note that LSU's three football championships are included in LSU's total of 45 claimed championships, but not in LSU's total of 42 NCAA tournament championships. Claimed football championships are treated consistently for Alabama (19 claimed vs. 5 NCAA), Georgia (28 claimed vs. 26 NCAA), Florida (25 claimed vs. 22 NCAA), Tennessee (23 claimed vs. 17 NCAA), Auburn (17 claimed vs. 15 NCAA), Kentucky (8 claimed vs. 7 NCAA), Ole Miss (3 claimed vs. 0 NCAA), etc. In each case, the difference is the number of so-called mythical national championships in football claimed by the particular institution.

I hope that this resolves this dispute. The information, as now presented in the article, is accurate. Thanks. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 17:38, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Please pardon the repost, but you seem to have two talk pages----one at User talk:Rmphan and this one. I can't tell whether you are receiving notices for one, both or neither. Dirtlawyer1 (talk) 18:27, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

RMphan is my current user name, after a name change. I was unaware, that the other user still exists, though it is not of major concern to me. (Posting on RMphan talk page is the primary source of conversation with me) Rmphan (talk) 20:42, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your complaints and as the person who started that whole section including the listings of national championships I understand how you feel when people make changes. Your AIAW championships however should include all womens' titles before 1984 which you have not mentioned. Also LSU has a national title in boxing in 1949 that you have failed to take into consideration which gives them 46 national titles claimed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by TN 66 (talkcontribs) 04:29, 31 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • TN 66, LSU's 45 national championships already includes the NCAA boxing championship. Please feel free to count all 45 of them; they are listed by sport, year and school in the first subsection. I know: I'm the one who added the NCAA boxing championship several weeks ago, when I noticed that it was missing and that LSU's listed national championships only totaled 44. If we missed a 46th national championship for LSU, please identify it by year and sport, and I will be happy to add it and hunt down a citation to support it. Arkansas fan userbox[edit]

I noticed you were a hogs fan (woo pig!) and thought you might like to display a more colorful userbox than the one you have now; if not, that's fine, but in case you want to use it, here you go. Woo pig sooie! PCN02WPS (talk) 02:03, 7 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
