Blocked[edit]

I've blocked this bot for the time being as it is malfunctioning. Please fix the warning message it is leaving on the uploader's talk pages. Theresa Knott | The otter sank 22:03, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Malfunction[edit]

Bot seems to be malfunctioning. See this edit. I had just uploaded a new (rescaled) version of Image:Mýa.jpg, when I got this message. Seems to be a mishandling of special characters. --Pekaje 12:31, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Build in a longer lag...[edit]

I'm working on correcting images that don't have a standard FUR and are over sized. I upload the re-sized image first and within 3 minuted the 'bot has tagged it while I'm putting the FUR together in the editing window.

I'm not comfortable putting the FUR up first since it will not match between its stated images size and what is resident when the edit is completed. And it would be less that worthwhile to add the FUR, upload, then fix the FUR.

Is it possible for the 'bot to get a longer lag in stead of all but instantly tagging an upload as non-FURed, especially for a overwrite where the FUR has to be added as an edit, not with the upload.

- J Greb 05:50, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Actually, I would find a longer lag extremely annoying, as I then can't immediately see if it will eventually come around and tag the image, or I have to do that myself. I don't mind the messages, as I will just hand them over to whoever originally uploaded (if they are still active), but I certainly don't want to be waiting several minutes to find out if I'll be getting a note from the bot as well. I don't think anyone will care if the FUR is technically incorrect for the couple of minutes it takes to rescale it, so just do that first. --Pekaje 16:39, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have this same problem. I had uploaded a newer, more FUC-compliant version of a book cover, with the intent of immediately adding the rationale since you can't do this at the upload page. The bot and I got into an edit conflict, so I just cut and pasted the FUR over its edit, but now I have a totally superfluous message on my talk page.

We really need to think about making the edit page more like Commons so the FUR can be added along with the upload. Daniel Case 15:20, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Um, how about adding it in the upload summary? Wouldn't help me, though, since I use the external editor script, which really isn't meant for adding a FUR at the same time (it can, but not easily). As for the superfluous message, why not just remove it? I generally remove bot-made comments once the issue has been taken care of. Nobody says they have to stick around, if they bother you. --Pekaje 15:28, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
If the upload is to replace an existing image, the upload summary is just a glorified edit summary, it doesn't put the information onto the article page line a fresh upload does. - J Greb 16:55, 13 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Image Note[edit]

I just added a Fair use rationale note in the image section under the Image:Girlfriends-traceeellisross.png in the Girlfriends article if it is acceptable. Ceddy 06 16:34, 12 August 2007 (UTC)

tagging of obviously self-taken images[edit]

This bot tagged Image:Downtown3ff1.jpg which was uploaded with the comment "Took In My Dads Plan" (sic). This image is nearly obviously copyright by the uploader. It also appears to have been tagged while the uploader was still working on it. I hope you aren't deleting such images arbitrarily. --ssd 16:41, 12 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Get Some Picture[edit]

I received your message. Thank you for the words but I didn't actually post it. Only to see how it would look like since the picture is way too large. Can you do it? I have been here for a while on Wikipedia but not actually pro at it. Thanks a mil. --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs 19:07, 18 October 2007 (UTC)Mc2006[reply]

I've acquired non-copyrighted images[edit]

I asked the Wits University personnels for a non-copyrighted image of the campus and they emailed it to me. The author is aware of Wikipedia and knows the image's purpose and that I would upload it on Wikipedia (giving due credit to the university). How do I tag this picture given the above information?

Could you send me the template for fair use images please - Roadworx —Preceding unsigned comment added by Roadworx (talkcontribs) 14:32, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Your bot has marked this image of a postage stamp, scanned from my collection, for deletion in 7 days due to lack of explanation behind non-free content. However, all of the other stamp illustrations from the article Postage Stamp are marked similarly to my own. Please be kind enough to drop me a note at my user page or e-mail me with the requirements for this. I thought to check the scans of the stamps in the article, but they included no rationale. Thank you.--Lyricmac 22:41, 5 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You need a Fair use rationale. See WP:NFURG --uǝʌǝsʎʇɹnoɟʇs 01:05, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please check the rationale when you have a chance, and let me know if this suffices.Thank you--Lyricmac 16:40, 6 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

It could get deleted for another reason, but it helps to say what image it is. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 09:07, 7 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding Image:Corsaire -1899 -3.JPG[edit]

There is no copyright on this image. It was taken in 1863 in the Russian Empire and whomever actually took the photograph is not known. The subject in the image died in 1882.

Works belonging to the former Soviet government or other Soviet legal entities published before January 1st, 1954, are also public domain in Russia, and are thus public domain the United States except under extraordinary circumstances.

Template:Free screenshot[edit]

Hi, I'm just letting you know that your robot didn't recognize {{Free screenshot}} (with "GPL" parameter) on this edit. Perhaps it detected my first upload of the graphic, where I didn't specify the "GPL" parameter in {{Free screenshot}}, I'm not too sure. Regardless, the bot claimed the image didn't have a license when it did. Anyways, this is just a minor annoyance—no big deal. +mt 22:22, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

GFDL-user|[edit]

The bot does not seem to recognise the above template [2] --Barryob Vigeur de dessus 23:03, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

A bit of time...[edit]

Perhaps this bot should wait a few minutes (say, ten) before tagging uploaded images. I was in the process of adding a rational directly after upload when it tagged my image (Qr.jpg). No harm done of course, I simply noticed the tag when I saved the rational and removed it, however, it would be nice if it gave the uploader a bit of time to add one.

Regards, -Leif902 22:14, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I second that suggestion. +mt 22:51, 10 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on User talk:Musicspaces, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because User talk:Musicspaces is blatant advertising for a company, product, group, service or person that would require a substantial rewrite in order to become an encyclopedia article.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting User talk:Musicspaces, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself.
