Hey, Satellitedmb! I saw your post on the talk page of the article you created, but I wanted to reply to it here, just in case it gets deleted before we get a chance to talk. "Public domain," in the copyright sense, has a very specific meaning: it refers to things that are not protected by or subject to any sort of copyright. Normally, this happens because something is old and the copyright expires. It can also happen if something was created before copyright laws were adopted. But the point is that it's a pretty specific term, it doesn't just apply to anything produced for the public. Indeed, there's a little line at the bottom of the page you quoted that reads: "Copyright © 2011 Onslow Vietnam Veterans Memorial Foundation. All Rights Reserved." This means that the Foundation itself has claimed the copyright for itself, reserving all rights for itself, which means that it's just not suitable for use in Wikipedia (unless you get them to release it under a free license, but that's pretty complicated and I don't understand it fully, so I won't go into it. :P )
Anyway, don't worry about it! I know you did it with the best of intentions. People have their articles deleted all the time; nobody will hold it against you! Copyright is a very tricky thing that confuses a lot of people (including usually me!), but it's one of the few things Wikipedia itself can get into legal trouble for, so it's necessary for us to be very cautious about it. Stick around; once you get the hang of it, Wikipedia can be a pretty fun place! Thanks for understanding and the brief explanation. I may be able to actually get them to do the whole copyright thing, but if not, I'll just work on an article about it some time. I actually have ulterior/capitalist motives (mwuu haha) for joining Wikipedia. I hope that's okay. I recently designed a mobile app that uses Wikipedia (following the terms of use of course). Since this memorial is not on Wikipedia yet (or geonames, but I think I've resolved that, fingers crossed), I can use the memorial to do some field testing. And don't worry, if the app is successful someday; I'll definitely contribute to Wikipedia. There have only been 14 downloads right now so it's got a ways to go :/. I hope that's all okay.
