Hi, firstly well done on the work you've done on the article. I've not used my BNA account yet but it's obviously an excellent resource for historic players. I've added a few bits from my copy of Citizens and Minstermen, but there's nothing re: personal life or the Lincoln injury. Thanks, Mattythewhite (talk) 18:29, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
undoubtedly, these surnames (Hernández, Fernández) are of Hispanic background, and are written without the accent in the French language. However, that does not change the fact that Luis Fernández is SPANISH and his last name has an accent, so I wager Hernández would have the same "grammatical reasoning". I offered said reasoning to the two users last connected to the article, one of them moved the page, you chose to reinstate the previous version, okeydokey, it stays that way.
WP is all about verifiability and sources, correct? I did not offer any source to this claim above, do you have any sources it is "Hernandez"? Cheers --126.96.36.199 (talk) 19:49, 7 December 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe what it boils down to is that both versions are correct (with the accent, without), if you notice JF Hernández's BDFUTBOL.com entry, it has the accent. I stress again, Luis Fernández has an accent in Spanish, in French it does not. Then again, since Fernández is Spanish (he could have played all he wanted for France, he's Spanish but naturalized French) but Hernández is 100% French, I see your train of thought for removing the accent in the latter guy; I am in no way criticizing your work, I am merely doing what people are supposed to do over here, discuss contents and ways of improving them.
- And just so you know, finally putting my money where my mouth is (I often preach about teamwork, but seldom set it to deed), have been helping out in undoing my bits where I unduly wrote "silver category" in players' storyline, I know that that can be misleading even people that are accustomed to football, let alone the average reader.
No problem. I looked in one of my PFA Who's Who books and they list his middle name as John; but I went with the ref I eventually used as it matches what findmypast list. Mattythewhite (talk) 13:16, 12 December 2014 (UTC)
I admit that my summaries may look like I am on a power trip (WP:OWN), and some of my actual edits sure look like it, but I know I don't own any articles here. However, if my summary was hard, and for that I apologize, so was yours ("...something resembling English").
However, in this one particular piece, the piping or not piping aside: you removed links of competition, leaving Segunda División hiding a season of that competition, the same with UEFA Cup. Bordeaux was a series of removals altogether, beats me why. And isn't it logical that, if Espanyol climbed from the second tier, where they finished sixth next was in La Liga? And why do we have to say La Liga (or any other league) until the cows come home in texts? For starter, it's not even an English word; and "funny" how some people (of English tongue) here have stressed that the full name of the (this) team is Real Betis and you have to write it like that even in box, but then we can't even unpipe in storyline, where's the coherence in that?
With trolls such as this one I even relish the prospect of leaving some articles (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:188.8.131.52), so I have never edited S.L. Benfica-related stuff to avoid being taunted by these "people". However, when it's clearly not the case (just two good editors "going at it"), it really saddens me. But don't worry, i'll never edit Mr. Mestre's article again if that is the best.
WOW, you must really be cross, even though I APOLOGIZED for the summary...No problem, I have created a WP:FOOTY discussion, please provide an input there, yours is always appreciated (and no, I'm not being sarcastic). Cheers, happy weekend. --184.108.40.206 (talk) 16:52, 19 December 2014 (UTC)
- Like I said, I always appreciate your inputs, concise and to the point. I would have also, howeved, very much liked a third party's opinion, since we two know by now how the other operates in terms of editing, I was looking for a "tie-breaker". People at WP:FOOTY chose to stay silent (other than you, mind you), a pattern in several of my discussions (don't want to be a crybaby about it, but surely gives that impression, maybe it's something wrong in the way I present the reports, could be).
