Hi, Ted. Thanks for the discussion and analysis. I was concerned not just because of the dead link, but also because as Tbrittreid you wrote that "detailed search of the site indicated reveals no such quote". You mention, "I had no doubt that the site there had taken down the feature story in which Joe's statement had been found". I'm not sure why we wouldn't have doubt — Wikipedia has frequently been subjected to bogus quotes, and the more realistically portrayed, the more easily they're passed off. When it's a quote attributed to a living person, this triggers another level of concern, since (also because of hoaxes), Wikipedia is very sensitive to anything regarding living persons. And finally, the quote, while pertinent and useful, wasn't critical to an encyclopedic understanding of the section.

Thanks for the head's up on the external links not working in edit summaries. I do use Preview, but I don't often check the edit summaries; I'll do so better in the future, although, happily, the link information, at least, still worked. --Tenebrae (talk) 15:55, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

advice

you've been doing some very nice work, but you also do seem to be getting into a lot of arguments that sometimes tend to get personal. Consider whether it wouldn't be more effective if you made a point of only referring to the article in discussion, and not other editors? I find the best way of doing it is to always wait a bit before actually saving; about half the time, I seem to change my wording a little for the gentler. DGG (talk) 00:41, 31 January 2009 (UTC)
