Talking to myself 2

r.e. this comment (sorry for coming to your talk - I don't want to clog up AN/I). I think this is a problematic issue because Persian is significantly different to English so sources cannot be trivially verified (i.e. using a translator). The reason I voted deleted on that particular AFD is based on the following rationale:

  • There are no good English sources that I could find beyond filmographies
  • There appear to be some Persian sources, but I cannot verify their soundness (i.e. are they good sources)
  • Therefore it is impossible to verify this persons notability
  • Thay also appear to fail WP:ENT too (that is just another reason unrelated to NONENG)

To my mind, because the article needs specialist language attention it becomes a problem. It seems fair, right now, to say "well the article is unsourceable in English so unless someone can reliably source it in Persian then it could be deleted". I wondered about your thoughts on this? --Errant Tmorton166(Talk) 14:44, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

I personally believe that machine translation is good enough to establish notability and verifiability, and I have no problem establishing both of those to my personal satisfaction with regard to this gentleman. But I don't really feel very strongly about it :) Thparkth (talk) 14:53, 19 August 2010 (UTC)

Speedy deletion cancelled for Klajdi Jaupi and Bim Jaupi

Hello. Saw your note on the creator's page after deleting these as hoaxes. Someone came behind an retagged as hoaxes. I thought it odd that a German footballer should have an Albanian name. I searched for sources in German and English to support footballers by these names and found none. There is a Klajdi on the Albania national basketball team. Creator also changed info on Besa Kavajë ‎adding Kladji and removing someone else. Besa article also lists a Bim. It's incredible to me that notable professional footballers in Germany and England should not have supporting Google hits. If you can provide me with reliable sources to support the deleted articles, I'd be much obliged. Thanks, Dlohcierekim 01:32, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure the articles were hoaxes, though it wasn't immediately obvious to me. They were originally listed for deletion under speedy deletion A7, which is for articles that contain no claim of significance at all, whereas those articles claimed the subjects played for a professional soccer team, which is enough to exempt them from A7 deletion. So no, I don't have any sources for them. If I had noticed the unlikelyhood of them playing for so many internationally-famous teams, and yet having zero Google hits, I would probably have left the A7 tag alone even though it was technically incorrect :) Thparkth (talk) 01:39, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
Add if I weren't senile, I'd have remembered you'd set the Delete 2. ACK! Which I think is a cool tool to have Sorry for the memory lapses. I guess I wanted to leave no Tern unStoned. Dlohcierekim 01:47, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
I for one appreciate your attention to detail on things like this. But yes, in this case, it was me who screwed up! Thparkth (talk) 01:49, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

3rd opinion on Edi mustafallari, or have I been the victim of a hoax?

I declined the speedy on this for asserting significance. Now, I find nothing to back it up. What do you think, if you don't mind me askin'? Dlohcierekim 02:01, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

I think the problem is that he's a player in the practice squad, not the active squad. If he's never played a professional game, he will have little or no press coverage, and anyway won't meet the WP:ATHLETE notability criteria. My standards for what constitutes a "credible claim of significance" for A7 purposes are pretty low, but in my opinion being in a practice squad isn't enough. Just my completely non-authoritative opinion of course :) Thparkth (talk) 02:07, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
Well reasoned. Dlohcierekim

Wow

thanks. Dlohcierekim 02:25, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
