January 2024[edit]

Your edits of List of characters in The Railway Series contain some errors. There are three types.

  1. Grammatical. The genitive in British English is formed by adding apostrophe s. So Charles becomes Charles's etc. Also you should not put a comma before a coordinate conjunction, such as an and, connecting two coordinate clauses. Putting a comma before the and in a list is called an Oxford comma. It is not necessarily wrong.
  2. Links. Whilst it is good to use hyperlinks to bind the encyclopaedia together, they must be appropriate. Linking enthusiasm for rail enthusiasts is not helpful. The style manual also advises against linking common words such as bull when anyone who can read the article should know the definition of bull.
  3. Misinformation. Examples include, Nowhere in the books does it say that Percy is a general goods engine. The books say that he is a goods engine which is very different. Duck said, "They say I waddle but I don't." The books do not say that he doesn't waddle.

I hate reverting good faith edits but it gets tedious sorting out the fact from fantasy and deleting inappropriate links. It's even worse when the stuff is put back in the article for a second or third time. Meanwhile there is good solid information that you added that has improved the article. But now I must go through it yet again and and correct the errors. OrewaTel (talk) 09:19, 23 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
