Just wondering[edit]

Isn't it rather hard to remember that username? I guess as long as you remember 10 XO's? Anyway you might want to try a customized signature to lessen how odd that looks. You could also redirect your userpage to your talk page so it's not a red link. Tyciol (talk) 03:36, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I chose this username after some frustration with repeatedly having my other usernames rejected by overzealous micromanaging Wikipedia moderators for rather trivial reasons. I'm sticking with X0^10.--XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO (talk) 10:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Username[edit]

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!

I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: It is "confusing", and 20 characters is very long. Your username is hard to remember, and it is easily mixed up with XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO and XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO, even OXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?

I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.

You have several options freely available to you:

Thank you. hmwithτ 18:35, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jesus fucking Christ, is this a joke? There are millions of members on Wikipedia. Most usernames are similar enough to be confused with some other username. 20 characters was the maximum allowed for a username when I signed up, if the Wikipedia admins wish usernames to be shorter, they should've changed the Wikipedia signup settings to reflect that. This kind of arbitrary bureaucratic bullshit from power-tripping moderators is what makes Wikipedia such a pain in the ass to use. I've already gone through enough usernames rejected for stupid arbitrary reasons. I have had this account for months with no trouble.--XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO (talk) 19:53, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
This isn't a power issue. We just want WP to be usable, and your username can make it very difficult for other users to find you or your userpages, especially if they needed to leave a talk message. As for the limit, it's not that your username is too long in general, character-wise. Usernames are looked at on a case-by-case basis. For example, "Jennifer Marie Johnson" is longer than your username, but is easily recognizable. The issue is with the repeating characters. While XOXOXO wouldn't be much of a problem, when you repeat characters 10 times, it gets over the top. User:XOXOXO is available as a name ([1]). Or, you could even perhaps usurp (take over) the account User:XOXO. Is there a reason why either of those usernames wouldn't work for you? hmwithτ 20:12, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
WP is still usable with my username. In fact the vast majority of websites with registered users seem to operate fine without staff micromanaging the usernames of its participants. My userpage can be found by clicking my signature, is that so hard? I'm sure if I take XOXO as a username, a few months from now some other pain in the ass WP moderator will tell me that my username is to similar to User:XOX.--XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO (talk) 21:10, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
