From 1977-2006, the station was known as WUPE-FM. WUPE began operations in 1977 as a Top 40 station which evolved to soft adult contemporary and then oldies. After oldies the call letters and format were moved to 100.1 FM. From 1975-1977, the station was known as WGRG-FM, and programmed as progressive rock.
