Not sure why I've ended up writing a list of theologians when I have no interest in theology, but it seemed like a good idea at the time (turned a red link blue, or something, I forget exactly which one). It also made a change from a list of Arabic scholars, when I have no interest in Arabic, and a list of librarians, when I have no interest in libraries (err)... Anyway, you get the picture – another WP:OXFORD list of academics, with absolutely no mention of cricket or baseball or similar. One image, with alt text; no dabs; no deadlinks. Bless you for reviewing, and may all your wiki-sins be forgiven as you do so. Incidentally, I have it on the very highest authority that reviewing this list is the spiritual equivalent of a pilgrimage to Rome. BencherliteTalk 21:33, 23 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support – my "quick look" was followed by a more in-depth look just now, which has revealed no areas of concern. One or two questions I would have raised have been covered by your answers to TRM's comments or by the changes made in response to them. The gaps-between-tenures issue is not terribly important. Looking good; I will check in more depth later, but these things occurred to me on the first run-through:
  • Goodraise corrected one typo, but there is another lurking in E. P. Sanders's notes.
  • A wikilink to Atticism would add value.
  • There are some gaps between different professors' tenures (notably 1930 → 1932 and 1989 → 1991). An explanation of what happened during those periods would be beneficial (e.g. was the post vacant?).

Comments I made a little trip to the other place last weekend. I enjoyed it, through gritted teeth....! Oh and take a first for including one of my alumni in this list...!
  • "during his ecclesiastical career.[1] During his lifetime" too rapid in repeating "during" (and "established" less so before and after this snippet).
  • Uni of Ox is overlinked in the lead.
  • I'm sure we've discussed this before but can you check with MOS where you put a full stop if it's the end of a sentence and the end of a quote. E.g. you have:
    • "a distinguished Benefactor of the University". (in the lead)
    • he "threw himself into the office with conscientious earnestness, and discharged its duties with exemplary fidelity." (in Hawkins' description) - I have no beef either way but perhaps you'll educate me as to which is correct vis-a-vis the MOS and make the article consistent.
      • Found it at WP:LP - it depend on whether the punctuation is part of the quotation or not. I think I've got them all correct now. BencherliteTalk
  • " from Ireland to put on display a marble bust of Ireland by " of him, or we're getting a touch Ireland-tastic?
  • "as he was "a distinguished Benefactor..." mind you, we've kind of lost track of who "he" is in this bit, the sculptor (doutbful) or Senor Ireland.
    • Reworded to address both issues.
  • ". Edward Hawkins was elected..." no need to repeat his first name here.
  • Ref 7 (for instance) appears to require a subscription? Should we be denoting these kind of sources with "subscription required" in the ref itself or should we just disappoint our reader who wanted to check if you had a reference for the "sometimes called "Tractarians"" claim...
    • Hmm, it's indicated at Ref 1 with {{ODNBsub}}; I could mark all such sources, but haven't in the past for similar FLs. After all, if I'm only linking the publisher and Oxford Dictionary of National Biography once in the references, on first appearance, would it be inconsistent to mark "sub required" each time? No strong views, though, so see what you think. BencherliteTalk
  • "a Fellow of " - is Fellow a proper noun in this context?
    • reworded with lowercase "f", as I can never quite work out whether a capital "F" is justified or just tradition. BencherliteTalk
  • "The Queen's College, Oxford" vs (simply) "Christ Church"...
  • Minor one - shouldn't the "Professor" col be called "Tenure" or similar?
  • Is Provost worth a link?
  • You link North Carolina but not Louisiana. Any reason?
  • "His interests include..." lonely hearts column time... call me harsh, but I'm not sure I'm bothered by his "interests", perhaps his achievements? His works?
