Original - Cape Petrel (Daption capense) in flgiht, East of the Tasman Peninsula, Tasmania, Australia
Reason
We only have a couple of deep ocean bird photos featured, and all of them to my knowledge are taken on land near breeding sites. I recently went on a pelagic trip about 25-30km off the coast of Tasmania to photograph some of them. Because of the 2-3 meter swell, which eased in the afternoon, it was often difficult just to keep the subjects in the viewfinder. Fortunately my camera's auto focus was up to the task! I think this is a good image of a Cape Petrel, and it meets the criteria.

  • Support although there seems to be a remnant from sharpening near the tail. Is the original like that too? Crisco 1492 (talk) 02:33, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
    • It isn't (a sharpening remnant) and is in the original. JJ Harrison (talk) 22:03, 26 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Must be the contrast between tail feathers and sky then. Good shots, all 3. Crisco 1492 (talk) 05:03, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Looks to me like it's just the coloring of the feathers. You can see the light edges are not just between feather and sky. The light edges continue up the side of the feather a bit. JBarta (talk) 12:33, 27 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak support. No issue with oversharpening, but I get a feeling you were just a little too far away, and thus it's a bit short on the fine detail that (quite frankly) you've made us come to expect. ;) Still support though due to rareness/difficulty for WP. --jjron (talk) 13:44, 30 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Weak support agree with Jjron. Pinetalk 07:28, 1 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support Fine details may be a bit lacking but I like the view of the wingspans in flight. Plutonium27 (talk) 16:15, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. After a CA correction I can give my support. --Alchemist-hp (talk) 20:31, 2 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

    • Think it is worth doing the CA correction alchemist mentioned and seeing what he says? JJ Harrison (talk) 06:14, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
      • Please mail me your CR2 file and I correct it for you, or do it simply self with DPP. --Alchemist-hp (talk) 18:00, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
        • I've uploaded a new version, are you happy with it? JJ Harrison (talk) 23:00, 5 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
