Original In the 15th century Nederlands a wide variety of foods started to became available to the wealthy citizens of the Low countries, consisting of a rich variety of fruits, cheeses, meat, wine, and nuts. Tea and coffee consumption were increasing and becoming part of everyday life, often served with sweets, candy or marzipan and cookies. A Dutch mealtime in the 17th century could contain abundantly extravagant dishes. After soup, salad and meat dishes, savory tarts and pastries followed. The meal ended with jellies, cheese, nuts and sweet pastries, washed down with sweet spiced wine. Someting like above.
Reason
Original file 10,230 × 7,372 pixels, used, good quality scan. One of the rare early depictions of sugar in art. The wealthy Dutch Empire's trade enabled spices, sugar and exotic fruits to be imported to the country. Exotic ingredients such as dates, rice, cinnamon, ginger, nuts, and saffron were used.
